Hi guys,

Not sure if these have been discussed anywhere:

1. Christian Petracca almost immediately took off his Norm Smith Medal.  Maybe I’m reading to much, but I wonder if this is another team first action.  He mentioned on the Sunday footy show it was in his bag but nothing else I’ve seen.  Anyone heard any commentary on this?

2. Any cheer squad members have any info on who prepared the Run thru / banner?  I know back when Helped out making these in the early 2000’s that there was a good relationship between club cheer squads who often helped each other out.  Wondering if Freo/west coast helped or if WA demons put it together?

Thanks

Noticed that too.  I reckon you're spot on.  Fits the narrative - from what they've been preaching all year it's everyone's contribution that enables him to shine.  To show off the medal and take the glory (despite having an amazing game) goes against that.  Once again Tracc is pure class.

I don't want to belittle the action but it's kind of the done thing these days. Dusty did it for all his Norms. A few players have done it with the ANZAC medal in recent years. In fact I think Trac did it when he won the ANZAC eve medal earlier this year too. And players also talk down the Brownlow/B&Fs and such, seems all those accolades take a back seat until retirement.

Oh I didn’t realise other players had done that, I’ve missed the last few grand finals due to watching my kids sporting events.

Anyone know about who made the run through / banner?

From ABC radio this morning I think they had the help of at least the Fremantle cheer squad

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast
