Unknown Autographs - Help Needed

Featured Replies

Approx 15yrs ago I was given a Melbourne Demons Guernsey by an old friend who owned a Limousine company in Melbourne.  I believe one of the autographs is Neil Daniher however, I am not sure of the others and it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help identify who else has signed this guernsey.
Thanks
Brent

36 Andrew Leoncelli, 21 Steven Febey, Looks like Jeff Farmer on the bottomunder Fila, Maybe David Schwarz on the opposite corner to Neil Daniher. Unsure the one next to Steve Febey's, But possibly Viney (just there is a V and it may be an 1998 jumper with LG on it?

Just checked my 1998 signed Team photo that has sat there for years (won at local footy club function). It could be J Stynes (mine is a bit worse for wear after 23 years, but it does look similar.

I thought Jimmy Stynes as well.

You can pick out the J and the S

1998 was his last year

LG as a sponsor ran from 1998 to 2003, covering the entirety of Daniher's tenure.

Could be a red herring though, with extra signatures possibly collected after that period ad hoc. You say you received it around 15 years ago though, so let's presume it was current at the time and cut off at around 2006.

Neale's signature looks different in later life, but we can all appreciate there's a very good reason for that. We'll rule out Daniel Nicholson, in a weird way of signing one's name. Another earlier scribble pretty much confirms Daniher.

First thought was Simon Godfrey in the top left - but on checking Schwartz's signature online, this looks like a somewhat horribly squished example, although I'm sure it's not easy signing fabric. And maybe a suggestion of a #5 above it?

Leoncelli is a cert below that, and I think S. Febey is likely too (although I'd like to ask the latter some questions about his design, as it looks much more like Stevie J. The original Stevie posts on here from memory - so maybe he can confirm?).

What looks like a #21 however could also be the exact same as a random signature squiggle. Stephen Tingay, bless his woollen socks, may also possibly fit the bill here (though definitely not according to other online examples).

The one to the right of that and the bottom one are a complete mystery though, yet I would naturally go for Jeff White over Farmer for the lowest one. Hilton however looks the most spot-on to me, though I actually think it's bizarrely David Neitz!

Was going to go with a very random suggestion of Brad Green for the former, but doesn't fit with other online examples. Other left-field suggestions included Lyon and Woewodin, but they don't fit either. And not R. Robertson.

Thanks for the distraction B_Wright. I'll be up all night on this one.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
