Well whelan went off obviously with a bleeding face but did come back on i saw. As for McLean...Tripple M said broken foot...10 weeks prob (but im only guessing that duration)

That's what I thought. I could've sworn I saw the number 45 running around after the clash.

If that's what happened to Brock, then that's up there as the most disastrous start imaginable...

unbelievable

Im 100% that Wheels came back on...but i only saw him running once after the hit. At least he came back on. The Saintsational site say he broke his jaw but that is unconfirmed and no reports like that have been made. As for McLean...i definatly heard he did his foot and he was on the bench in crutches however the source on MMM is questionable and im sure Dr Larkins will make a comment come tomorrow or Sunday footy Show. McLean is definatly injured tho. Unknown how long, i took a guess cause it takes around that time for fixing it and getting some prac game time. Who knows but crutches look bad

10 weeks.... great.... this night really couldn't get much worse :(

Whelan came back on, then straight off again. Some sort of neck injury apperantly.

will there be anyone reported from the game like wheels and im pretty sure montant will to for he jumper punch

That was right below me. All fines I recon. Didnt see montant insident.

Urrgh......

Good grief I hope not, this was, and is, bad enough

Well, hopefully he will be ok (and I am trying to find something to make glass is a little full here......)

And thanks for the updates guys, such as they are :( !!!

Yeah, just watched the replay :o

It looked to me like Brock dropped and kicked the ball oddly as a result of the bump. The ball drifted further forward on his foot than it would normally, and from what little I can tell, it put too much pressure on too little area around the toe part of his foot. It looked like it hyperextended a little, and when he was on the bench with the physio poking around, it seemed he was inspecting that part of his foot. It sounds like a silly little thing, but that's all I could see that might have caused it. Once it happened he was enourmously distressed and still tried to run to CHB to contest the next opposition thrust into their forward 50. When he finally made his way to the bench he was in as bad a way as I can remember him being.

Tough.

My hope is that there's little or no structural damage, and perhaps it was just a tendon/sprain thing. Honestly though, I'm preparing for the worst.

As for reports, Davey smacked Baker in the head and apologised afterwards. Umpire siad it was a free and nothing else, so that's some hope, and he did do it more or less with his forearm.

Whelan may get something ONLY because there was damage to the head of Ball. It was totally fair, and an accident, but that's never stopped the panel from rubbing guys out. Apparently it was whiplash that had Whelan off the ground.

Montagna was being hassled by Trav in the last and turned with a clenched fist and thumped Trav as hard as he could in the chest. Could be worth a look. But who knows?

Ive heard that whelan went off with neck spasms and brock either has legiment damage in his foot or he has fractured something!! But i think we wont know about brock until we get bak from the doctors!

I'm hoping for some sort of small miracle, and hoping it's only a sprain.

Having sprained my hand quite badly on Wednesday, it certainly feels like a break and is just as painful.

I didn't see the accident, but if his foot slipped as you say, he may not have had enough force there to actually break it. I'm not a doctor though, and knowing our luck, he's probably smashed it to bits and will be out for 3 months. :(

Heaven help us if it's as bad as they think.

They were icing the injury so it may not actually be a break.... but if he has torn the ligaments then he looking at a fairly lengthy lay off anyway. This injury will certainly test the depth of our midfield group.

well if he has ruptured the ligaments, he is still looking at atleast 4 weeks on the sidelines. It has happened to myself and I could not even wiggle my toes for 6 weeks, let alone walk, let alone run.

If he can get fit quick and stay that way.....this may be Sylvia's chance....

whelans neck stiffened up after the hit, a little bit of concussion was there too (SEN or 3AW aftermatch i trhink)

why brock had to WALK off the ground was a concern too, 30m away from the bench, everyone stood up and watched him come off the ground...

very very good point. i couldn't understand for the life of me why that was the case.

whelan is GONE. early in the season, damage to the head, time for a tribunal statement .. minimum 2.

I would be supprised if he gets susspended. It was a good hip and sholder and not high. Injury ways he came back on. I dunno the serverity tho.

I agree.

It was a clash of heads.

The fact that Whelan had a cut to his head proves this.

Surely they can't suspend someone over a clash of heads.

the tribunal have categorically said that gia's bump on kossi last year where they clashed heads would result in a suspension ... draw from that what you will

FWIW i agree with you, but looking at it objectively, it doesn't look good

Time will tell i guess. Cant worry now as whats done is done.

Any news on McLean?

Dr Smooth from MMM has stated that Brock has been cleared of any ligiment damage. He will have a CT on monday and may only be out for 3-4 weeks.

WOW!

So what does that mean? Obviously there's no break in the bones.

Does this equate to a sprain?

Great news. Crutches worried me and hopefully this is the extent of it. Mononey to fill in his shoes. Any news on Wheels and duration out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash.
