Daisy, its interesting that progressives get termed  'Trolls',   when they make criticisms of our clubs failing ways since the Mid 60's.  In wanting the club to change from its losing ways,  so we can all enjoy more positiveness and winning ways.

Maybe those who 'dare to',  and see the why's, in our failings,  compared to  'the conservatives',  who do not dare to hop out on that limb,  to also try to create change for the better.

The conservatives can't see the vision because they are trapped in a fear of getting something wrong...which inevitably they do  anyway.

What the conservatives typically do is to criticise those who want change to a better methodology,  (so that winning can become more frequent)

Conservatives generally do not want change.  It's sheer madness.

Change,  we must.

The veil of negativity is due to conservatism within Mfc,  outside the fence.

We have lost most of our progressive supporters over the decades,  because of our failing ways... (they gave up on us)  and its the conservative element that holds the power of numbers, mostly now,  simply because conservatives become  'rusted on'.

So what happens when remaining progressives criticise and call for change;  the conservatives try to push them out,  try to silence them,  because all the conservatives can see,  is just plain criticism.   And not the dream behind,  the want for change.

The conservatives lack the vision to see the way forward,  and out of the mire of conservative soup we flounder within.

You think that way because you are blind to this side of things.  Simply, that is why you do not understand these matters.

Better still, don't quote him, Daisy, so that those of us with him on ignore do not see his ridiculous rants

?

I remember being in tears over this and prepared to quit footy forever as a young bloke if the merger went through....in time we probably would have got used to it to some extent but despite the fact we've been pretty horrific for most of the decades since Im glad it didnt happen

I always felt that Gutnik and Brian Dixon never received the appropriate gratitude of the club or fans for being the faces that opposed the merger.

Were it not for them, there would have been no club at all when the Hawks voted against the merge as there would have been no spirit to continue.

Both were eventually shafted by the club for good or bad reasons but that is another story.

And as you may guess, I was one of those who was vehemently opposed to the merger.  I was also one of those who did not fit into Dallas Brooks Hall to my great anger.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
