Lockdown Watchlists (DVD/Blu-ray/NetFlix etc)

As a spin-off from the DVD/Movies topic, I thought it might be an idea to set up a post where we could make film and television recommendations to see us all through the lockdown.

For me (and I’ll keep editing and adding to this as I think of more titles):

Films on Blu-ray/DVD:

Parasite, Joker, anything by Jim Jarmusch, anything by David Lynch, collections of the original Looney Tunes cartoons,

NetFlix:

The Studio Ghibli collection, Ugly Delicious, Somebody Feed Phil, Midnight Diner (Tokyo Stories), Miles Davis (Rebirth of the Cool), The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Dark Tourist...

I recommend this show to anyone who'll listen - Babylon Berlin. It's an excellent period piece/crime drama set in Berlin in the 1920's and 30's, with all of the social and political unrest you'd expect. Season 3 just dropped on Netflix, it's in German but there's an English dub (which is terrible, subtitles are much better IMO).

I recently watched both seasons of After Life on Netflix... brilliant.

Have been watching the first season of What We Do in the Shadows, downloaded on Foxtel... not as good as the film, but still very enjoyable.

Currently watching Ken Burns' Country Music on DVD and Twin Peaks Seasons 1 & 2 on Blu-ray disc.

Recently finished watching the His Dark Materials Season 1 on Blu-ray disc... very very good; much better than the movie version of the Golden Compass.

Watched The Lighthouse and The Peanut Butter Falcon, which are both brilliant films!

You want a laugh? Trailer Park Boys is my go to series on Netflix in these dire times. Saw it years ago and pi**ed myself laughing. Now rediscovered it and now up to watching season 12 .

I reckon I binged Trailer Park Boys up until around 2016 I think it's time to get onto it again.

I recently watched Space Force on Netflix, that was a good laugh.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Geelong

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
