Hope this an omen ... At Newmarket tonight 'Norway' won the first race whilst there was another horse in the race called 'Sydney Opera House'.  The racing is on the free-to-air racing channel.

So come on Norway in the Nations League!

Well its only 7pm here, so i can follow the Norway match for you guys......looking good so far at 1-0 Norway at the 56min mark.

I also have a pick 6 with the first 3 legs up. No cash out offer, 650 return. If this leg gets up just need Spain and Packers at the line -10.

Edit: 74 mins now still 1-0. Now its nerve racking.

Edit: 90 mins    1-0....

Edit: Full time: Norway 1 Slovenia 0

4 from 4......2 legs to go. or in some cases only 1 Macca.

And the notion of a combined multi is starting to serve a good purpose ... we've got a couple of days to wait Wadda but that anticipation feels good knowing that we haven't risked much and we have the cash-out option as well.

And for what it's worth,  the last time I won a very good amount involved a MNF NFL game so there's another omen.

Well done Norway and well picked @Dee Zephyr

Yep eggzactly Macca. That was the notion in the ocean to put peoples strengths together across different sports and combine for small outlays. So far so good. I happy to wait. Its a mistake to try and get all the legs on the same day. Slow burn is the key.

Yeah ... it is probably the go Wadda (slow burn) although I have had a few collects over a shorter time span.  What the slow burn does do is give the option of cashing-out or alternatively,  one can take a shorter time-span smaller multi within the bigger multi such as what I did.

We're not talking big stakes here but the payoff can be really good ... my strategy might be that the 1st pick out of my 2 could be more of a 'sure-thing' and for that pick to be decided earlier than the 'spec' later pick.

I valued my 2 picks over this weekend as equal this time,  all the same.  Just my thoughts moving forward.

Yes well if Spain get up it also gives the option of laying of on San Francisco at the line incase Green Bay fall short.

You are correct in what you say. The thing i like is that this does give people many options of doing what they like with the picks. Many combinations are possible for the discerning punter.

Since a coffee is $8.50 here, a collect would be very welcome.

Lets hope there are more cartwheels in Copenhagen to come !!

I reckon we'll get better at it too Wadda ... the team aspect and the transparency is a factor much like it is with the horses.  Except with sporting events it's a 2-horse race - pun intended.

And if we ever start another thread we already know what we're going to call it.  It would have been a terrific title for another Marx Bros. movie.

The 49ers line has come into +8.5 so if it comes to it,  taking the slightly extra line +10.5 at $1.71 would be needed for the assured win.  That's of course if Spain prevail.

Here's hoping!  ?

Due to no cash-out for me it’s impossible to lay off in the Spain game Macca, if they do get the leg up I will be laying off in the Packers game.

The line on Neds has moved into -/+9, I got -9.5.

My Packers line is -10 not -10.5 so I am absolutely not going to get caught out on a 10 point win to Green Bay.  A collect is a collect.  I'm taking no chances.

But we need Spain to win first DZ ... at home,  you'd reckon they should prevail and they know how to score.  I can also see England scoring so fingers crossed on the match score.  For some reason Laddies didn't have +2.5 available so I took +1.5 rather than +3.5.

I have a feeling England will score as well, I was a tad surprised to see them paying close to $6 to be honest. Spain is a class above though. Let’s go Spain!

I’m also cheering on the Greeks in Finland, I reckon 1-0 gets it done there.

......we might take some solace in the fact that, England are the first side since 1963 to score 3 goals in the first half away to Spain. Thats like since the Dees last won a flag......

We missed the last 2 legs which is better than missing just the 1 leg in some ways Wadda.

Anyway,  it was a nice ride and good fun.  And we do it all again next weekend ... as I indicated in an earlier post,  I'll be looking for a sure thing with my early first choice and then some value with my second 'later' choice.

I'll probably go with the 4/6 split bet again with the 4pick being the 4 'most-likely' picks.  Should be able to get 10-1 to 15-1 on the 4 pick whilst the 6pick will no doubt deliver top odds.

Yep disappointing Macca and a "Catastrophe in Copenhagen !" I did find some great old bars to watch the soccer in though, so not a complete loss.

Nevermind. We learn and move on. Green Bay are not on top of their game atm and i didnt realize Rogers was playing injured. I do like a line bet in football though. Might have to keep an eye out for some although you probably know the game better than me. Theres always more cricket coming up!

4/6 split sounds like a good idea. Our strike rate is not too bad, so a good formula there. 10-1 i will take any day. I also think the UEFA thing is working well, just the one hiccup. England is now a good side. World Cup was no fluke. Easy in hindsight tho. I thought Spain were a good thing.

....anyone else keen on Germany at 4.50 over France at 1.80??...tonight. You know how the French start off in tournaments.....asleep.

Yes,  might do a 3 leg midweek 'special' Wadda ... the terrific thing with the Nations League are the match-ups.  A lot of evenly matched affairs so good odds can be had if the right choices are made.

Teams are looking to win the games too so as to avoid relegation and/or gain promotion out of all the 3 team groups.  It's a really good concept and will gain acceptance soon enough.

I think its a great concept and actually amazed its taken this long. The friendly concept has never worked. Should be expanded to include Australia and Asia ! Almost like another World Cup.

Ok so its like a normal knockout style with the top teams going through. Midweek special is appealing as well Macca. Is there no end to our genius? Better go wake up DZ !

Your Germany choice is a smart pick Wadda ... I'm on with 2 other picks that I dare not mention because of the mozz factor!  I've really got nothing to recommend so I'm happy to go with your choice as the roving banker.  Komm auf Deutschland!

Germany have to win otherwise they are in danger of dropping down to League B in the Nations League.  Even a draw will do them no good.

Ha Ha Wadda, I’m up mate. I forget there’s a bit of mid-week action on here, spending too much time on the Hogan thread trying to make sense of it all.

I’ll have a small nibble on Germany 2-1 correct score.

  • NON-MFC: Round 10

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?
