I've had a small wager on Max tonight - 10.00 seems overs too.

Such a dominant season will surely be rewarded with at least a top 3 finish ... would be a popular win amongst the footy public too.  Go Big Maxy!

My 2 Best Bets

Serie A (Italian League) 2.00am Sunday

$2.80 Juventus Win & Match Score +2.5 Goals vs Napoli

That gives us 30-1 for the 4 DZ without BM's input and without our European Correspondent's input ... haven't applied odds boost either.

Very close Macca, the Gunners almost got there late in the game with the over 2.5. The Wolves v Southampton game looked destined for a draw after 80 minutes. Everton missed a penalty at 0-0 but still managed to find the back of the net 3 times. Well done on the Juve pick.

The best value is often with the very good team vs very good team at home ... in any sport really.  The good teams tend to do well away from home against average or poor opposition.

So I felt more comfortable with the Juve pick rather than the Gunners pick. Plus,  Juve with Ronaldo are way more potent now in terms of goal-scoring opportunities.

Everton was a good pick DZ ... they are a decent team talent-wise and will probably finish top 8 again as they normally do.

The Champions League Group games usually throws up a stack of goals with the big clubs often being involved.  There's a few potential one-sided games coming up over the next 2 mornings.  A 4pick is about my limit though.

Juve & PSG both involved in home games against weak opposition look very likely.

I’ve gone a ‘Lotto’ range multi Macca for the 8 games in the morning. All 8 games to go over 2.5 goals, throwing a Hail Mary.  A buck gets you around $54 back.

La Liga (Spanish League) Monday 4.45am

Valencia vs Barcelona Win & Match Score +2.5 Goals $2.25

That gives us combined odds of 27-1 (so far)

I will chime in with a couple as well.......

Cricket 1st Test Pakistan v Australia  Pakistan win    1.91.

I see you've gone 'local' with the Ajax tip Wadda! ... when in Rome and all that ?

Anyway,  here are the 6 tips ...

The Man City pick boosts up the odds but they are obviously no mug team ... all the tips look quite promising to be perfectly honest.

All up ... 110-1

On a Thursday evening I quickly make a note of who all the big teams in Europe are playing on the weekend ... there's usually about 15 teams that I take note of but I look for teams that are also free-scoring or play to score.  And 'Ajax' are 1 of those teams.  Them and PSV in the Dutch league.

Currently there is an average of more than 3 goals in the Ajax games and in games involving PSV the average is 4+ goals.  Good for the exotics are both those 2 teams Wadda.

All the other teams are the more obvious ones such as Barca,  Juve,  PSG et al.  At least you then know you've got decent team's involved in a multi.

Well we got Ajax & Lazio up and missed on 3 (including my 2 ?) ... the cricket is still ongoing.

Any number of the good teams won in Europe whilst being involved in games where 3 or more goals were scored - Ajax,  PSV,  PSG,  Man Utd,  Arsenal,  Dortmund,  Chelsea,  Milan,  Inter,  Sevilla,  Leipzig,  Rangers & Celtic.

Just gotta get the right ones hey!

Yep some good results. Pakistan made nearly 500 in their 1st innings......just have to wait for the Australian batting collapse...

Just on that point when are Smith and the evil ones allowed to play again? It was only 1 year ban wasnt it??

Smith & Warner are back in April next year or thereabouts ... Bancroft can play in January.  We play 2 Tests against Sri Lanka in late Jan/early Feb.

Put any bet up that you like Wadda but I'm barracking hard for the Aussies and could never bet against them ... ha ha ?

The Test team is after all,  my favourite sporting team along with the Demons.

Yes Macca i knew that....unfortunately, punting is punting......and its about what you think is a good pick. Whenever i start barracking instead of punting i nearly always come unstuck. The shape the cricket team is in lately i thought it was a good one. Also the weight of money that goes on such bets when an Australian team is involved often puts up some interesting odds for the opposition when betting in Australia.

But yeah, i hear what your saying of course. Just arrived in Copenhagen, will do a cartwheel in the morning for Ace High!

I bleed Green & Gold so ypu're talking to the wrong bloke Wadda!!! Ha ha.  But it is no bother ... I'm just being transparent as you are.  Betting against the cricket team is akin to betting against the Demons.  I can't and won't do it.

And we demand to see video evidence of those Cartwheels in Copenhagen!

Oh i hear ya, dont worry, of course i appreciate what your saying. I was so [censored] at the ball tampering thing, that i actually dont mind betting against them for a while. Anyway.

Looks like a thrilling finish coming up actually.....We need 131 from 85 needed with 4 wickets in hand on day 5.

Considering Australia were 11/1 after day 2, (when they were 0/131) god knows what they were when they were then all out for 202!?????.........thats an extraordinary comeback.

Oh dear, i did say cartwheels didnt i !! ......ok well, i ll have to find an assistant for that......mmmmm....how about 10 laps of the local pool instead? :)

Edit: Looks like the wet sail win is lost now, at 333/8. Paying for the draw now....57 balls to go.

Well we just lost 3 quick wickets so we'll do well to get out of this now Wadda.

As for the ball tampering,  none of those playing now were involved with that stuff.  Coach is gone too.

The reality is that I'm a real cricket fan - an absolute fanatic.  Losing any Test match is like how many of us felt at half time of the preliminary final.

I've probably watched a high proportion of all the deliveries in at least 400 tests involving Australia.  That's about 12,000 hours - live.  I can't get enough of it.

Here are my 2 best bets for the weekend ...

Nations League Saturday 5.45am

$2.05 Belgium Win & Match Score of +2.5 Goals vs Switzerland

Nations League Tuesday 5.45am

$2.85 Spain Win & Match Score of +2.5 Goals vs England

As for the ball tampering,  none of those playing now were involved with that stuff so I'm not sure why you'd hold anything against the current team.  Coach is gone too.

The reality is that I'm a real cricket fan - an absolute fanatic.  Losing here is like how I felt at half time of the preliminary final.  Only worse.  Most of my mates are the same ... the phone messages have been flying thick and fast.

So I hurt when the Test side loses ... I've probably watched a high proportion of all the deliveries in at least 400 tests involving Australia.  For years,  I purposely took my annual leave specifically so I could watch the Tests either live at the MCG or on the telly.  That's about 12,000 hours - live.

By contrast,  I don't watch much footy at all apart from watching the Demons.  Cricket is my sport.  I played at a decent level for over 30 years as well.  I can't get enough of it.

Yep, looks like i interpreted those scores wrong and they were always playing for a draw. Read a few match reviews now.

Yes well thats pretty fanatical, and i will certainly give that to you. Well done and what a great supporter you are. I was lucky enough to go to the footy once with Gideon Haigh who i consider one of the finest ever. Very nice fellow. Hes also a demons supporter you might like to know. I grew up going to the G watching Lillee and Thompson as i guess you did. I will still never ever forget that. Amazing times.

28 balls left....will they survive? What an effort if they do. I have no coverage here.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are back on the road with a massive challenge ahead — facing the reigning premiers, the Brisbane Lions, at their Gabba fortress. The Lions are licking their wounds after a shock draw in Tasmania last week, while Melbourne’s season hangs in the balance. Can the Dees defy the odds and pull off a miracle to keep their razor thin finals hopes alive?

  • NON-MFC: Round 10

The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
