What is it with the Crows and player development...

They do pretty well with defenders (Davis, Talia, Lever, Doedee etc), Mids (Sloane, Danger, Crouch boys)...

...but boy are the key forwards flakey...Tex, Jane, the other Jane went to Sydney mmm Tippett.

Lynch is handy and Fogarty will be a player imo, still only a kid.

I watched 3/4 of that game, the umpiring in parts was disgraceful. Crows lost a couple of early goals because of it.

If the AFL wants to benefit from gambling then punters should be made aware of which teams will be favoured week to week by the umpires.

What we need is a third umpire review system for general run of play decisions

Would be ideal but let’s be honest, it’s never going to happen.

And as we know a goal kicked or missed could then change the game going forward.

2 decisions last night which were blatantly obvious in the first qtr were the Crows player running towards the goals chasing the ball which was heading for a behind and pushed squarely in the back and over the line. An obvious free kick and an easy snap would of resulted in a goal. The second was the Texan marking the ball right on qtr time. He didn’t push his opponent he used his forearm which is legal and the umpire could see how it played out.

I hate 17 other clubs with a passion (Richmond by far the most) but I do enjoy a punt. I bet small (to modest) amounts on multi bets containing all the games of the round. Whilst I understand mistakes are made by umpires (as well as players) when they are as obvious as the ones mentioned above, I along with others have the right to feel ripped off.

Score review SNAFU in the Brisbane v Essendon game. Bomber player kicks out of a pack, field umpire calls touched and the ball goes through. Score review appears inconclusive but field umpire’s call is overturned. Is this what the score review was meant for?

The problem with overturning a field umpire’s call of “touched, play on” is that upsets the concept of consistency in umpiring. It’s not possible to overturn or challenge a call of touched in 99.9% of situations in a game so in the very rare situation that occurred yesterday, the call of the umpire on the spot should not have been questioned.

Was hoping for the lions to beat essenscum today but don't think that will happen.

The Lions were incredibly disappointing. Set themselves up to break through the Don's defences so many times and messed it up with lousy skills. Both sides stank. Both are better than they showed but that was a horrible game to watch and suggests it's a long way back for the pair of them.

Hoping the Saints hang on to Richo into next year. Don't like him and don't rate him. Relied for far too long on a few old blokes who repeatedly finished us off. I'd like to enjoy knocking them off consistently to square up, so hang on Richo!

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
