Industry funds have that clause to avoid class actions for poor future performance, not because its true,  but history is an indicator of behaviours.

1929, 1987, 2008,  etc.

So when you say,   "Across the last 20 seasons the 8 does not alter after round 9"   that means I can expect you to make statements with no basis in facts again. Thanks for the clarification.

Some of us fess up when proven wrong. I thought Gysberts & Watts would be superstars.

This is the highest we have been on the ladder at this point (end of Round 8 ) since 2006.

I should have added a single word ' generally' in that above sentence to illustrate the trend. using other words I thought covered this as a predictor that is not perfect, impacts of drafts etc, but there you go.

Your latest post relates to the above industry fund comment how?  or are you struck on the original issue?

Don't bother replying these are rhetorical questions only.

I love Mansfield BTW so think I  might buy a house up there.

Generally sides in the 8 make the 8 is a bit of a motherhood statement, but I accept what you are saying. Generally 25% of sides in the 8 at round 9 don't make the final 8. Personally I hope that that is Adelaide & Hawthorn out for North & the Doggies but who knows.

This year we may have struck it lucky in that two of the teams we play twice are the Saints and the Suns. We also have the Dogs twice which if we are trending we should win. That by itself is 6 wins.

The other two are Geelong (next time at the cattery) and Adelaide (once in Alice and once in Adelaide).

Freo at Darwin instead of the MCG turns what should have been a 70/30 game into a 50/50 game of Fyfe remains on song.

Other than the obvious of winning everything I am more interested in how we can make top 4. I suspect we missed that chance with not winning one of our 50/50 games so far this year. Our opponents for that 4th spot are Hawthorn, Geelong, Swans , Adelaide and Port so watching how these teams go over the next few weeks becomes important. Adelaide playing Port twice makes for a plus for us .. I think.

We smashed Carlton. We'll smash Adelaide.

yes, i did think of the adelaide game last year too.. and the west coast one with t-mac's goal. just not sure that this current style will win the big games? i am a little worried.. i was at the hawks game too. when oliver pirouhetted around 3-4 hawks with a sublime handpass and oliver got crunched by rioli.. great game. still the best i've attended, i agree. and it was the sam weideman's first too! yeah yeah... i'll believe it when they start to convert all these inside 50's ?

After witnessing Melbourne's demolition of Carlton today I am increasingly becoming bullish. Rocky, do you still think that your "not sure this current style will win big games"? like the one against Adelaide next week...I think we'll smash 'em.

i am in amsterdam at the moment and have been very good and not watched the game yet (waiting for the girlfriend to finish work). i've read all about it, but not even seen the highlights.. so, with this knowledge, it clearly seemed about as comprehensive as we've played as a team. no stand outs, which is awesome. i mean, the game plan is what the players have been taught and its now ingrained, so we'll be persisting with it no matter what i'd suggest (at least this year). very, very interested to see how we go against a team with decent mid's, competitive talls and speed (hi crows!). might fall back into that old over handball thang we like to do? we'll see. i'm stoked they won obviously, but cautious and far from bullish. i wouldn't criticize anyone else from being that though :)
