David Zaharakis

He once won the 'ANZAC Day Medal'

You know , the individual award that players from the same two teams play off for each year making it entirely worthless?

I'm not using his career total, just 2017.

2014 was Zaharakis' best year.  That year he averaged 29.5% CP to total possessions.  It's always been on the low side.

I'm using footywires stats from 2017 not AFL Tables.

http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=6&playerStatus2=A&tid2=25&type=A&pid1=3129&pid2=3919&fid1=S&fid2=S

Josh Kelly averages 40% CP to total possessions this year (as you can see in the link above).

EDIT: He was around 32% in 2016.  In 2010 (his second year) he averaged 5.1 CP from 16 disposals at 32% and he was 36% in 2011, which was a pretty good year for a young player, so it's been a mixed bag.

Cool, thanks.  If I use his 2017 figures from AFL Tables I get the same result as what you said now, so that's good. Just wanted to reconcile the answers. It looks like anything below low 30s is getting in to danger territory and mid 20s is below AFL standard.

Oliver, Wines and Viney are all a touch below 50%. Paddy Dangerfield is 56%. Freak.

For what it's worth, all the main stats sites (footywire, AFL Tables) etc all use the same data feed, so they should all agree with each other if doing the same calculations.

We got great value and INFO from players who came/come over from other Clubs.  Just two examples, Vince and Melksham/ Hibberd.

This is a no brainer, usual provisions, medicals, Goody feelings etc......... away we go...

If we had been able to grab Zaharakis instead of Melksham it would have been a terrific move. Hell, we might even have played finals last year.

He's a valuable player and very good at his role, generates a lot of run and a lot of decent inside50s.

But I think the ship has sailed on this one, and we're not in as much need as what the price would be.

As others have said his "upside" a few years ago was looking good. He seems to have stagenated, possibly due to the drugs saga they caused at Dons.

He goes alright but as an RFA you'd think his price would be too high, I can see Richmond chasing him hard!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
