Wow! Elliott Smith being referenced on Demonland - FMD.

Not really such a surprise ... after all, his real name was Steven Smith and the real Steven Smith was a fantastic player for the Dees who was the first little leaguer to make it into the VFL, went on to win a Bluey Truscott Medal during our hard times in the early 80s and is now President of the MCC. Fits in well with the theme of rising from tough times to success at the top.

Idd add that there is another link as to why it makes sense for him to pop up on a demons fan forum. Like dees fans elliot was a tortured soul who yearned for release. Like the dees capable of so much beauty but also crushing pain

Wish they'd play Spencer. Only needs to compete then pedo can play chf, watts to flank. Tmac can stay in defense. Our structure is better.

JKH will be fine people. He's missed a lot of footy. Only natural he'll take a little time at afl level. I thought he showed glimpse? He's an excellent ball user and decision maker. Super agile and goes in hard! He'll be awesome for us.

I heard Mason Cox only played a half in the VFL on the weekend - what is the chance he will be a late call up?

No chance unless they have an injury. JKH did the same for us. Standard procedure when VFL game is on a couple of days prior.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
