Potential Round 1 team

Featured Replies

I'm trying to familiarise myself with the women before the games start so I've read all the coaches reviews as well as looking at their player profiles and draft position and put together a team for the first game. It's probably way off but at least I now have an understanding of the players and even if it's only 50% right I'm more familiar with the names.

FB:####   Clifford Downie
HB: K. Smith  Hickey  De Bertoli
C: Humphries  D. Pearce Randall
HF: Mifsud  O'Dea  Berry
FF: ##### Crantson  Anderson
Foll:  L. Pearce   Paxman  Mithen
Int: Patterson  Boyd  Lampard Kemp Scott Phillips

E: Grierson  Jolly Duryea  Newman  Cordner

To be honest, I've not taken a whole lot of interest in the Womens comp. I have however posted in the Club thread that young Shelley Scott will be one to watch. Being Colac born and raised, I have direct intel that young Shelley is a loose unit and will be our Jack Viney in the Women's league.

I hope the player pool hasn't been too diluted and the women's comp is a winner from the get-go. Failing this, I think  we might be looking a few years ahead to see the fruits of the efforts put into the Women's league.

I'm happy to be patient and watch the league evolve. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that. Although sadly I think a lot of people will measure the standard against the men's league and dismiss it prematurely. Which is ridiculous, not because the women have any less talent or potential, but because the men's league has had 100+ years of development, and a wider talent pool due to societal expectations around sport... Just wait til the 5 year old girls of today reach the big time. Anyway, getting excited now and can't wait to cheer the Dees on!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
