Thanks to Laddies I can at least say I've won money on the horse other than involving the horse in an exotic bet! ?

And as a follow-up to Black Caviar,  we've been very lucky Wadda.  I prefer to not necessarily separate the great ones.  Why can't the select elite be all great?  Like Barassi,  Flower,  Ivor Warne-Smith & Norm Smith.

For instance,  most horse racing enthusiasts are reasonably familiar with Phar Lap's record and Makybe Diva of late but here's Tulloch's record ... I distinctly remember Tommy Smith always talking about how great the horse was and for good reason.  The horse had a major injury as well and therefore missed a lot of racing during its peak years. 

All 5 of the aforementioned horses were classed as the World's best or close to the World's best or would have been in the case of the 2 champs from long ago.

Speaking of champions the races are on at Ballarat today....DK Weir anyone? I notice he only has a couple in today, both favourites in race 1 and 4. Not paying that much but multi them up with a few other place getters or a fav from somewhere else perhaps. Some great wins yesterday. Well done team.

I've got 'Bit Of A Lad' going with a couple of others in a treble so there's some Weir representation Wadda ... should win.  Small field means the jockey can place the horse wherever he wants.  Probably 2nd for the most part?

It's a little bit different in the major feature race though (Grand National Chase Race 6) ... there are at least 3 genuine chances.  A half-decent trifecta race so I might have a go.

Melbourne Cup Watch?

Just watched Marmelo run in the Group 2  Darley Prix Kergorlay at Deauville. Sent out a $1.80 favourite and couldn’t reel in the eventual winner. Finished second by a couple of lengths and looked to hang towards the outside down the straight. Race caller feels he lowered his colours today. He’s in the markets for the Cups, unsure about plans on coming down under though.

Good idea Wadda, will start researching early for the Cups. Here’s an article on three imports, Tosen Basil included.....interesting comments by Weir.

Weir said Admire Robson and Cassius were on their best behaviour while Tosen Basil needed to improve his race-day manners.

Ha ha, why wouldn’t the Basil be rowdy and boisterous? We just made the finals!!!!!!!

I like the Japanese horses, had success with Delta Blues in the 2006 Melbourne Cup and Admire Rakti in the 2014 Caulfield Cup. Shame what happened with the latter in the aftermath of the 14’ Melbourne Cup.

Wow!  Impressive copy & paste there DZ ... I believe I mentioned the match-up against Sandbar for Santos last week back but there's some decent opposition apart from Sandbar. 

Performer,  Plague Stone & Dio D'ora round out at least 5 genuine chances in the race.  The 1100m might suit Santos the best though.   Small field but could well be a good betting race with so many chances.

I have still got visions of Performer veering off the track and in the process throwing Hughie Bowman off.  Scary moment that was.  And Performer was the early favourite for the Slipper from memory. 

There's a slight lull this week with only 5 Group or Listed races out of the Rosehill & Moonee Valley meetings but the rest of the program's at each venue are still quite solid.  Still,  the 5 Stakes races have a number of well performed familiar horses engaged.

Yes, how we can we forget the famous Performer sidestep and he was an early favourite for the Slipper. That was a nasty fall.

Well DZ I thought I'd hold off whilst we got the Best Sports bet off and running on the other thread.  Just having to find 2 picks works quite well doesn't it?  We'll probably have it down pat in no time. 

So I did have my eye on the Memsie Stakes on the 1st of Sept as that race looks like attracting a top-notch field.  There are 3 or 4 other decent races on that weekend so it doesn't have to be the Memsie.  Here are the early odds ...

Your Chicago Bears are playing Wadda's & my Green Bay Packers at Lambeau in the first week of the NFL regular season (Monday Sept 10th) The biggest and oldest rivalry in American Football. 

Hopefully we'll see both of you gentlemen on the NFL thread ... at least for the tipping comp.

Tim Clark rode him last prep in all races. Santos finished second in a trial a couple of weeks ago, not sure what’s going on there. 

We’ll go with Performer, no Sandbar either.
