I see Patrick Rubisaki Payne has a runner in the Adelaide Cup today Race 7 No 1 Home By Midnight 9.00 & 2.90. Its come in from 14.00 & 3.50. Might be worth a little flutter, esp on the plc. Billy Egan to ride.

The Adelaide Cup is a wide open affair but 'Home by Midnight' is racing really well ... apart from its latest win it has recently run a couple of eye-catching 2nd's at Caulfield this prep.

Sure to be running on as it has run a couple of 2nd's at the 2 miles.  It's in my exacta combo along with a few others.

I watched the racing from Dubai late Saturday DZ as there were 7 Group races as well as a 2 Group 1's but ... no crowd (Coronavirus)

The races went ahead without any patrons and that trend is going to spread elsewhere.

The Indian Wells tennis tournament has just been called off and all it will take is 1 player to contract the virus (in the AFL) for the competition to be compromised.  Empty stadiums or no play at all.  Ditto for any other sport.

Yeah watching the soccer highlights from Italy is very strange......no home ground advantage anymore. Friends in Italy talk about nothing else.

That’s the game Wadda, thought I had it. Not to worry, we’ll go again on Saturday. Great win by the King in the cup.

Really unlucky DZ ... been that sort of day.  Lots of the favoured horses winning but with multi's,  there's nearly always one that puts you out.  Yours was the right strategy though.

My exactas the same ... either 1st & 3rd or a low dividend because of the 2 fancied runners finishing 1 & 2.

Still,  that's racing but you always need a bit of luck.  I have lost count of the amount of times when I have won with sheer luck at play!  Often the margin of a nose is the difference.

I think the weight really came into play with Home by Midnight. It got to about 2800 then just went backwards. 60 kg or whatever it was over 3200 is always a big ask.

Had a similar day to DZ with a multi of Samson, One More Jack and King of Leogrance all saluting....the last leg was the fav Free of Debt just to run a plc..... it came last. Shock, horror and dismay. But the punt giveth and the punt taketh away. We live to fight another day. Back to the 3 race strategy. Worked last Sat. Thats my go from now on.

Yes the 3 x 2pic combined with the 3pic can work well Wadda.  Might try it next weekend but that could involve having an exacta in each of the individual races instead of the 3 extra doubles that could be part of the 3pic strategy.

That 2pic/3pic also happens to be the favoured strategy of Gator when it involves the short-priced favourites.  Makes sense but you've got to get 2 of the 3 home to make a profit.

My strategy always involves getting back some collects Wadda (however small if it works out that way) So individual exactas is my preference.

For instance,  I also collected 3 exactas from our 3 race strategy ... but I didn't put on the 3 doubles (should have?)  One also doesn't want to invest too heavily in just a few races so either/or is probably best.  But if they're group races where the best are running around then it can be worth the risk.

By the way,  all our picks tightened in the market so the good odds (as a combo) didn't last much past 12noon on Friday.  Still, it's always nice to land a 30-1 shot!

Yeah they sure did come in. I waited to long and got on about midday Saturday. I developed a habit of waiting in case 1 was scratched which has happened before. I still got 16/1 and adjusted my outlay accordingly. (2 cups of coffee) So i was happy with the return and practice make perfect. I think we are getting better at it.

Lets hope the coronavirus doesnt impact the sport so hard we dont get a Spring carnival.... Who knows.

So have we got a contingency plan if the races are cancelled in Oz?

Honkers?  Europe?  Chile?  Bitcoin?  Online Poker?

We can't hit the casino and pile it all on the red as the crowd there might exceed 500.

We have to find a way!

I enjoy a good card game Macca, poker for me. Was going ok too, until they banned online poker here.

Haha, haven’t bothered with it since the ban Wadda all those years ago. I was only a low limit player, working at the casino where you weren’t allowed to punt whilst employed a few of us looked elsewhere for a bit of fun. A few fellas organised regular card games at home for us to socialise away from work also. Was good fun.

Might take you up on the Euro account offer,  simply for nappies mate. Shelves are dry.

Got 22-1 for our multi fellas which is more than decent odds for 3 very good chances.

I've gone down the exacta path with legs 1 & 3 whilst taking out a trifecta in the Probabeel race.

Hoping for 4 collects!

So weird with no crowd. Only media and a few trainers.

Few chances around today and The All Star Mile will be a classic. Can Alligator Blood do it again!? I will certainly be on board.

Good luck with the day everyone.

Looks like Rosehill might be abandoned due to poor visibility

That would be a first for us. Still 1 pick to come in R8.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
