Yes it was a great finish Wadda ... the big surprise was 'Gytrash' in the Lightning Stakes ... as was the run of 'Nature Strip'.  Another reminder to never take odds that skinny - too much outlay to win a decent amount and thus, high risk)  Alizee,  Flit & Vegadaze all won in fine fashion at Randwick as well.

I had Nature Strip in a couple of multi's although but I backed the other legs to win outright or in exacta's as well (Fabric,  God of Thunder,  Seemingly Discreet & Dark Alley)

And thanks to JJ I ended up in front for the day (he tipped value runners Rivski & Rigalo Di Gaetano)

But Gytrash is the story looking ahead ... it's a much imoroved SA galloper although it's Morphettville form previously was very good (running excellent times & winning)  It's almost certainly a Group horse now and I'll be following it,  that's for sure.

JJ tipped 4 winners all up yesterday at Morphettville whilst no one seemed to fair well at Flemington.  Even Gator went against his namesake (Alligator Blood) Again, a barnstorming finish between the 2 star 3yo's.  Catalyst didn't lose any friends either,  just beaten by a slightly better horse on the day.

The current crop of 3yo's is quite something too ... Alabama Express,  Castelvecchio,  Bivouac,  Exceedence,  Libertini,  Super Seth,  Darlasan,  Flit,  Anaheed,  Microphone,  Lyre,  Loving Gaby,  Shadow Hero,  Warning,  Miami Bound,  Funstar,  Standout,  King of Hastings,  Tassort as well as Alligator Blood & Catalyst.

Indeed Macca indeed. I remember when Nature Strip was first running it was always winning on tracks with a bend. The straight at Flemington can sort a few out sometimes, but i think the rain might have also thrown a few as it does. I really liked Gabys run and if you look at the overhead it almost looks like it won. Wrong side of the track maybe? Who knows time will tell.

The Australian Guineas in 2 weeks is now looking quite the race with Alligator Blood, Catalyst, Chenier, Super Seth, Flit, Dalasan, Loving Gaby, Shadow Hero & Microphone all nominated.

Still the greatest finish to any race ever.....18 years on.

Yep ... it never gets old Wadda

Incredible really ... all 4 hit the deck where as 1, 2 or maybe 3 going down could have been expected in a frantic finish. But all 4?

I'm still happy for the bloke (Bradbury) all these years later.  What many don't know is that previously Steven was rated high to win Gold in prior Olympics but bad luck befell him to deny him victory.  He certainly got the last laugh.

A Hollywood ending and apparently there is a film to be made about the famous win entitled 'Last Man Standing' (could there be a more apt title?)

Both Santa Ana Lane & Gytrash are sired by 'Lope De Vega' and both horses on the Dam side are sired by Fastnet Rock.

And like Santa Ana Lane,  there is a somewhat unfashionable view of the horse (Gytrash) so the odds could remain attractive.  Having said all that,  the horse has just come into 4-1 favourite for the Newmarket Hcp!

Yes thats what i always think Macca, all 4!!? Truly incredible and the look on their faces as they go down. I do remember something like that about him missing previously at the time, now you mention it and how everyone was rooting for him in this race, but he seemed to be in the most impossible position from the get go. I remember watching it live and feeling the anguish the longer the race went on and then the unbelievable happens.

It aint over till its over. Ditto horse racing.

Last man standing has many conitations doesnt it? Excellent title indeed.  Maybe they will draw on other aspects of that for the production.

I didn't see the race live Wadda but there's not much I do miss live when it comes to the Olympics.  So the impact (whilst very big) can't replace seeing it live.

On RSN today they were talking about the great horse racing rivalries and there's been more than a few (Sunline/Northerly,  Fastnet Rock/Alinghi,  Redoute's Choice/Testa Rossa etc etc)

Previously we've seen Better Loosen Up & Let's Elope in a match-race whilst Big Philou & Rain Lover were matched up in similar fashion going way back ... youtube has both match races available to view.

And now we have Alligator Blood/Catalyst/Super Seth and maybe even Chenier as middle distance rivals.

The rivalries are great for racing ... even better than stand-alone great thoroughbreds such as Winx & Black Caviar (IMO)

You really love your multi's don't ya Wadda!

I'm forever struggling at a 2pic!

I've got nearly all of your above picks but in exacta's and a couple of 2pics (and the 2pics are sure to fail! ... very small outlay though)

My tip today Pandemic looked the winner half way down the straight but died on its run ... on that performance I struggle to see it becoming a group horse (after failing against that type of field) I thought it would go straight past them ... disappointing.

Having said all that the inside running looks the go today ... Hanseatic will need to bring its A game to win the Blue Diamond.

'Streets of Avalon' wins the Futurity ... ridden a treat by Ben Melham.  The horse is such an honest performer.

33-1 could be had back a few days ago and it started at 9-1.  The money came late and now Streets of Avalon gets a run in the All-Star Mile.

Alas,  I wasn't on it today as I though the 3 heavily favoured horses would fight out the finish.

Tough horse and a well deserved win.

Yep, pretty tough day all round. I only got 1 winner, Adelaide Ace....was  downhill after that. Pandemic was disappointing as was Acting. My pick didnt do much better. Super Seth looked the winner, but Streets of Avalon just kept going. That leader bias was quite strong. A Beautiful Night had a good run in front but finished 9th. Bivouac also failed ditto Microphone

Next week Alligator Blood, currently 3/1 and Catalyst 2.70

Yeah impossible to get and nobody has got all 7 last few weeks, but its fun trying and yes the price is right. I got 4 week. Sometimes its a good exercise to force you to pick 1 horse rather than 4 in any given race.

Had an fairly ordinary day myself Wadda ... 1st & 3rd all day (with exacta's) and Gator & JJ tipped 1 winner between them (so they were no hope!)

But the 3 feature races on Blue Diamond day at Caulfield are nearly always very tricky.  I usually do quite well up in Sydney and at Morphettville on this raceday but not today.  I didn't even look at Tagaloa & Pippie but both were just too good.

Got a reasonable late collect though and I'll live to fight another day ... Moreira & Purton tomorrow might come to the rescue!

Nice one. Glad you got the get out stakes. I think it was Gator or Hutchy that mentioned a bet of the weekend called More Than This on Sunday. Ive looked and looked but cant see it? I didnt get the location. Can you see it anywhere?

Sha Tin Race 7 No.3 More Than This ($2.70) ... Purton on board.

Drawn wide but gets back anyway and then rattles home ... 'Golden Sixty' the danger but they'll probably quinella the race.

I'll multi it up with 1 or 2 others to get some value.  Maybe even a treble with 2 others.

Race 10 No.1 Monica (Moreira) looks a show as well as Race 5 No.4 Good Beauty (Purton)

Rather than win bets I often pick out 3 that I fancy and then have 3 doubles & a treble.  If 2 of the 3 get up I make a profit.  If all 3 salute it's happy days Wadda!

Anyway,  the Demons win and Petracca dominates!  Makes you wonder why we haven't played him in the middle previously.

Best Bet:

Flemington Race 7 No 1 Alligator Blood (w) $3.20

Best Bet Saturday at Flemington

Race 6 No.4 God Of Thunder $4.20

Best Bet

Randwick Race 6 No.1 Flit (Win) $3.80

Some top races today and we got the weather. Good (4) tracks at both Flemington and Randwick

Todays multi is 51/1 and for the price of a cup of coffee you can have yourself a good weekend!

Track seems to be running well after the first two races. The European, King of Leogrance, smashed his rivals into the turf in the 2600m race 2. Solid win.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
