Cheers Macca, haven’t looked at final fields yet, back soon with another.

Edit: We’ll go with Flemington Race 6 Number 6 Order Of Command $2.40

3 of the first 5 winners to Craig Williams ... he's on 2nd favourite Demolition in race 6 and the favourite Creedence in race 8.  Having a day out.

Cash Affair jumped slowly and got too far back - ran 2nd and got home well.  Weir mentioned that settling midfield was the ideal spot.  Winner too good,  all the same.

Unlucky @Macca with your pick. Made up an enormous amount of ground.

Winner!  Had it on top in a multiple trifecta but just missed with Gwenneth pipping Saint Valorem.  Otherwise,  had quite a good day on the punt.  So a 1st & 2nd with the 2 picks today so that'll improve the strike rate DZ.

Good to hear it was a winning day Macca. Order Of Command was very strong late, a bit short for me to back it.

I tried something different with our picks, took our horses in a running double as my only bet and hoped if it got up the divvy would have been greater than the 2 leg multi of around $10. Finding time to even place one bet with the newborn is a mission I tell you.

Galaxy Star later on, should win?

Good luck with all that DZ ... been there myself but it's been a while now.  Re-learning how to sleep in 1 or 2 hour allotments is quite a challenge!  You'll manage.

As for the Galaxy Star race,  I've taken out a F4 as I normally do in Perth.  It might have an off-day but I'd be surprised if that did happen.  With Material Man out the only real danger is Gatting although 1 of the tipsters has picked Perfect Jewel.

News from Hong Kong ...

Australian horse 'Dark Dream' (under new ownership) just won a C2 race in impressive fashion at Sha Tin by 4.5 lengths and is now probably going to be favourite for the HK Derby.

Dark Dream won the Group 1 Queensland Derby back in June.

n.b.  The Derby in HK is for 4 year old's and is worth a cool $2Million to the winner - smart purchase by the looks of it.  Definitely one to follow.

‘ Hang Man’ wins the 4th at Caulfield first up. Tony Brassel tipped it to win before the race and claimed it’s a serious racehorse. The win couldn’t have been more impressive.

I only just tuned in to Sky as Brassel was spruiking it and managed to grab $20s. The replay is worth a watch and the horse is one to definitely follow.

Well done DZ ... good odds!

Radio only for the races today but as luck would have it I snagged the trifecta in the last race at Randwick after thinking I'd missed after the race caller called 'Crafty Tycoon' as 3rd ... checked the results online and saw that Professor Marx got 3rd - Winner!

I love those sort of wins - back in the day I might have thrown away the tote ticket!

In other news 'Alizee' makes a return to racing in the Christmas Classic at Randwick on Saturday.  I'll post up the links to that race and a few of the other feature races on Saturday later on or tomorrow.

In the meantime,  there's a decent betting race on at Gosford on Friday that might be worth a look-see ... 'Belle of the Turf Stakes' (Group 3)  - 'Aloisia' is running in the race and looks well placed ?

It was a nice collect, trying my luck again with house money in the EPL overnight.

Well done Macca, paid ok too. Professor Marx came from well back in the field to grab 3rd, big run. Yep, the old tote ticket, I have thrown a couple away over the years. Surprise wins are often the best.

So Si Bon broke the drought also today, they said something like 800 days since it’s only win.

Looks like there’s good interest for the weekend with some decent horses running around. I’m almost certain El will return at the Valley also on Saturday, that’s the plan anyway.

Always nice to be in that spot DZ ... might do a couple of 3pick's myself in the EPL seeing as I'm a bit of an advocate of that sort of multi.  There's a number of good free scoring teams playing at home against lesser opposition and you'd reckon Man City & Chelsea will bounce back strong.

The Queensland Summer carnival is the focus this weekend with a total of 6 Listed or Group races but there's also a decent race at Randwick as well as a number of competitive races at the Valley.  I picked out these 4 as the standouts and all 4 are reasonable betting races.

Hey guys, im back. I think i will have a bit of a rest from DaTR for a few weeks. Looking forward to the Autumn racing though, which will start to get serious soon. Hope everyone is having a nice relaxing Xmas.

Yeah,  fair enough Wadda and welcome back.

I am like that with footy most years ... I switch off almost immediately after the GF and then tune back in for the 1st game of the season proper.  I take a mild interest in the draft and the practice games but only if there are any standout stories.

Hogan leaving kept me interested but as soon as the trade was done,  that was it.  I am the same with the NFL,  Rugby League and a few other sports.  I need a break from those sports.

By contrast,  the Horses,  cricket,  soccer and a few other sports can get my interest at any time of the year ... the Horses is almost every Saturday but the only races I really want to watch are the Group races from here in Oz or from overseas.  And sometimes that might only be 1 or 2 feature races.  But the interest remains.

For instance:  The summer carnival of racing from Queensland culminates with the Magic Millions meeting on the 12th of January ... and 2 weeks after that we get the Blue Diamond prelude's at Caulfield.  So there's no escape for me!  ?

Well done Macca. Despite the market drift, it really was effortless by Alizee.

Wasn't it ever DZ - very impressive!  And Bowman rode the horse a treat.

Not sure what they do with the Alizee now before the Autumn campaign.  Maybe the 'Carrington Stakes' over the 1400m at Randwick towards the end of January?

There's not much else going on apart from the Magic Millions in mid January.

Good luck to El in the next, a bit of PL happening here as I didn’t put its stablemate Khartoum in my quaddie.

2 from 2 today thanks to your tip getting up with Deprive.  Well done DZ and the horse was way too good for that lot.  Got the exacta with 'After All That' flashing home for 2nd.

Hands and heels for the final furlong too.  A progressive horse that looks the goods

Soft at the finish Macca. Well done on the exacta, healthy divvie.

A winning double for the crew here today. Good job, play money for the EPL tonight, which reminds me to head over for some monkey business.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
