I’m usually big on Behemoth, but laststart it didn’t look great.

I'm Thunderstruck even at 3-1 looks like good odds ... but it's Caulfield and he'll need to get past a lot of very good horses

Outside the top couple I reckon Lighthouse and Sierra Sue are in the mix, Lightsaber is a horse I’ve followed for ages and could be in the mix but I’ll want to see how the track is going.

I've been trying my hand at the same-race multi's in the off-season with mixed results ... needing better class of horses me thinks!

Usually just pick 2 horses ... One horse to win/2nd and one other 'value' runner 1st to 4th ... aiming to get about 6-1 up to 15-1 all up

So 'Sierra Sue @ 14-1,  Lighthouse @ 10-1 and Lightsaber @ 14-1 all appeal as value runners

I'm Thunderstruck has drifted out to $7.50 (with a boost)  in the Orr Stakes

That's decent odds for a class galloper!

Lightsaber has 4kg on the rest, 55kg is a very good weight for it. Mind you Behemoth prob wouldn’t feel 69kg let alone the 59

Managed to get 25-1 for this double ... that would kick things off nicely for the new season!

On a side note, I really like promise of success today, even stepping up and as a roughie I think Zouzarella is a decent use of a bonus bet.

Sorry fellas missed this week, I’ll contribute a best next week. Very interested in a couple of Sydney races today, really keen to see how good Espiona is and one of my favs in It’s Me resuming after a serious leg injury.
Good luck today.

Tofane way too good ... streeted them!

Has now won 4 x G1's (All Aged, Tatts Tiara, Stradbroke and the Orr Stakes)

I'm Thunderstruck looked like it needed the run as it's custumary sprint finish was lacking

Yeah looked way too good. Lightsaber is one I like to follow and it missed the start by a mile.

Behemoth like last start seemed to lack the power it once had.

Interesting that Mick Price has taken the opposite stance ... wants to start at Soft5 (Dead) to protect the horses from concussion type trauma

I agree with Mick Price as a Slow5 is ideal conditions for the horses

Tbh, when it’s too hot, I usually don’t bet as I think the horses shouldn’t be running.

Soft 5 would be fine by me, but the track needs to be soft 5 across the whole track and not softer on the inside if they are manufacturing the track conditions. I know it can happen naturally and that’s fine, that’s nature.

The tracks are often cambered so an even spread of watering is difficult ... same deal when it rains of course

Just water the outside of the tracks more than the inside when gravity is going to play its part

But hey, there is a lot of money and resources available in the industry so they should be able to find a way

The debate has been going on for decades

Would an under ground drip system work I wonder?

Who knows? ... I'm no green thumb.  Sounds like a plan though, Gorg

But you'd have reckoned RV would have figured it out by now instead of just the endless debate

Up in Sydney they more often than not race on slow or heavy tracks during the Autumn & Spring ... and that hasn't harmed the industry up there at all

And they still run slick times up there even up to a Soft7

In fact, they are thriving up there with regards to punter confidence & prizemoney

I quite often like Sydney better than melb.

Crack field in the Lightning!  Thoughts?

Gator has tipped Masked Crusader (8-1) and the horse does look ideally suited to the Flemington straight ... all about the timing.  Reckon the other runner at very good odds is 'The Inferno' (25-1)

Interesting that McDonald is riding Home Affairs in this.

More than interesting ... jumping off a gun horse like Nature Strip is a tad questionable (unless it isn't!)

Jamie Kah would have to be happy though!

Nature Strip has won 9 from 15 over the 1000 metres

Bloke at work said, they will want the stallion to win, cos they can then mak3 much more off studding.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
