6 races down at Sha Tin and Purton & Moreira share the spoils ... 3 winners each!

122 winners each for the season.  Zac reckons 145 will get it done.  Maybe.

Caulfield 2 week carnival moved to late November (probable)

So what lead up do we have for the Cox Plate & Flemington Carnival?

Sydney might cash in ... for instance the Metro Hcp (2400m) might be moved with a few other races to mid October.  Maybe that whole race day which is formerly held 2 weeks before the Caul Cup (?)

Maybe theyre listening to us Macca and the Cox Plate will actually be run on Xmas Day, but theyre just waiting for the right time to announce it possibly..

Nice win at Sale this morning by another Night of Thunder 1st starter Cherry Tortoni for Patrick Payne and Billy Egan who incidentally have a winning strike rate of 25% at the moment. Thats 2 in a row Night of Thunder 1st starters, taking into consideration the strong win by Winning Weather at Morphettville on Sat. These horses are starting to hit our shores, watch out for them.

Thanks for the heads up Wadda!

We might end up like Europe where it's just 1 long season (early May to late October over there ... Sept through to late June over here - including Morphettville,  Doomben & Eagle Farm)

The jumps season in Europe is effectively the forerunner (March/April soft tracks) so it's 8 months all up.  Our jumps season could fill July & August when the tracks are soft.  Just a thought.

Listening to Peter Le Grand (Chairman MRC) this arvo on SEN I got the impression that late November for the Caulfield Guineas/Cup carnival over 2 weeks might become a permanent fixture.  The Wednesday Caulfield meeting inbetween as well (?)

Add in the 3 or 4 G1 races in Perth over December along with the QLD summer carnival (which would include the Magic Millions) and then it's only a month off until the Autumn.

Trainers would adjust ... maybe the best horses would run every 4 weeks instead of the 2 week back-up.

As a punter the mooted changes to the Caulfield fixture's has high appeal.  Group racing rivals the Demons & Test cricket these days.

As for Xmas day,  put some sport on I say!  Especially now where we've been starved of sport for 3 or 4 months.

The MVRC might be looking at running the Manikato Stakes day the week before Cox Plate day.  And NSW racing will be eyeing off a few dates ... late Nov to match Caulfield?  Chasing the good weather makes sense for both States.

Lets face it,  it's a fairly crammed schedule anyway when factoring in that the Turnbull Stakes Day & the Epsom Hcp/Metro Hcp are held just a week or 2 before the traditional Caulfield dates.

9 weeks of wall-to-wall Group 1 racing spread over the 2 main States instead of 6 weeks might make more appeal for the horse racing enthusiasts (with a few G1 & G2 races in September as a precurser)

Sandown having it's own date before Caulfield might lift the profile of that race day too ... of course, Sandown does come under the auspices of the MRC so there's perhaps an ulterior motive as well ?

The time honoured Stradbroke Hcp is on this Saturday ... along with the G1 JJ Atkins Plate for the 2yo's.  Apparently they might have to lift the weights in the Stradbroke as there aren't enough lightweight jockeys about up there.

Dawn Passage is now the $5 favourite and is carrying 50kgs. Looks a half-decent field though with Trekking and a few others in the betting.

And the racing returns to the UK this weekend with 3 G1's ... Coronation Cup (Fri) 2000 Guineas (Sat) & 1000 Guineas (Sun)

Stradivarius with Frankie on board is currently $5 to win the Coronation Cup.

Yeah I've had a bit of a flutter tonight Wadda

Just a couple of one-off doubles & win bets.  As you said,  some handy types running around and the favoured runners usually find their way into the finish.  Great racing to be had.

Should we resurrect the Monkey Business thread for our best bets?  AFL & NRL back in full swing as is the EPL from Thursday onwards. Maybe get our picks in before Saturday?

We may need a break during the winter racing as has been the tradition (apart from having an interest in UK & Irish racing festivals)

Weirdest Race coverage ive ever seen. So much silence between races....Jockeys with masks.....surely harder to breathe....anyways.

Yeah i dont mind really. You can use Ascot for a BB this week if the mood takes you. Think we could do a good multi actually. Maybe make it the last week.

Monkey Business i dont mind. Its pretty hard to figure out any form atm with results like the Meter Maids beating West Coast. See what DZ wants to do.

Frankly Darling/Mogal & Battaash my multi tonight

Good thinking Wadda

The racing on Friday night & Saturday night from Ascot is first class

A lot of familiar names with 10 Group races to choose from.   We should be able to find 3 winners amongst those events.

I was on Frankly Darling as well ... Mogal should win too.  Mogul is a full brother to 'Japan' (who races in the Prince of Wales Stakes tomorrow)

Addeybb is in the same race ... won 2 G1's in Oz in our Autumn.

Mogul presented and then didn't run on.  The winner (Pyledriver) wins at 20-1.  Carrying a bit of condition was Mogul but no excuses.

Form is tricky,  all the same.  Nearly all the horses are first up after a long break.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
