A Day at the Races

'Exhilarates' wins the MM 2YO Classic ... came from the rear of the field and swamped them.  Looks a real horse for the future - very impressive.  Only a little horse but the closing speed is there to see.  The James Cummings stamp obviously.

Terrific victory, I was hoping she didn’t have that good a closing speed, I was on Dubious.

An almost day for me today Macca, unlucky with your picks the last two weeks, you’ve been nabbed late.

Another winner @Dee Zephyr  ... you're on fire!

I got on to Turnberry with the help of some bonus bets and Robbie Dolan did well to get the horse out.  Winner/Winner.

I was with Exhilarates ... I had to be after talking the horse up all week!

Dubious just found one better DZ.   Gallant in defeat and another one to watch.  Unite and Conquer shouldn't be forgotten either - was 4 wide without cover and never really had a chance.

$11.80 the Quinella. I might go walk the dog now to avoid the PL.

Couple of Listed races at Gosford coming up on Thursday ... both good betting races too if you can sort out the form.  There are numerous chances in either race.

As for the weekend,  there's a dearth of quality races although the Listed Kensington Stakes at Flemington sees 'Champagne Cuddles' making a return to racing in the 1000m dash.

Here is a latest trial with Winx and Ace High over 900m

Those names in the trial lol, just a shade better than the run of the mill trials at Balnarring.

Brad Davidson tipped me into Nahuel in the closing credits on Sky's 'Form Line' show last night ... got on at $11 and it won whilst starting at 5-2.  My rather small wager was part of a much bigger plunge!

Davo is a more than decent tipster of NSW racing too - always looking for the value runner.

Paddy Payne is taking Strategic Command to Morphetville R6, his only horse hes taking there. He often does this and wins. He is getting better and better and might be the next big trainer.

Is that 4 winners in a row or 5 DZ?

Racing.com just called and you're needed as a replacement for Gator!

Tell them I accept Macca as long as I can bring a couple of sidekicks from DL on the show.?

Not sure how many that is in a row, the formula seems to be working at the moment.

It was a very strong win in the end, I thought it was done 100m or so from home.

Your pick ran on well, it just seemed the leaders had a decent break on the rest. Creedence is usually a pace horse i thought.

El ran ok too for a first time attempt at 1400m in town. There wasn’t much separating 2nd-6th.

He did some work early, mate thinks they should have gone back from the wide barrier early.

Couple of very good Group 1 races at Sha Tin tomorrow.

'Beauty Generation' should win the mile race but 'Conti' is a real up and coming lightly raced 5yo and it could run BG close.  Moreira on board Conti (11-2) but Zac Purton is on Beauty Generation (1-8)

In the Sprint race Mr Stunning will take a power of beating but DB Pin,  Beat the Clock,  Fifty Fifty & Little Giant are all racing well and Mr Stunning might have to go around all of them to win (if it settles back)

Australian Group & Listed Races

Next weekend we get to see the 2yo's in the Blue Diamond Preview's as well as a few Listed Stakes races from Caulfield & Randwick - a precursor to the Autumn per se.   And in less than a month we'll see the great mare Winx running around in the Apollo Stakes.

Notice Jamie Kah is riding winners in Melbourne now inc 15/1 shot today. May pay to follow.

Jamie is just a terrific horsewoman as well as an excellent jockey Wadda ... she doesn't have an overly aggressive style which is what some punters are looking for but just rides her mounts the way they're meant to be ridden.

Jamie has made the right move coming to the big smoke and out of her comfort zone in Adelaide.   Belwazi came in from 40-1 to 15's to win the Kensington Stakes so a number of punters were on to it.  Kudos.

Been looking for a tipster out of NSW racing to go with Gator in Victoria & JJ out of SA and after a fair bit of research I reckon Tony Brassel is the one.  His tips can be found here(Sky Racing) (on the morning of the race meetings)

What I normally do is pick the eyes out of the tips from Gator,  JJ & now Tony Brassel looking for the best odds ... not really interested in anything too short for a straight-out bet.  More so exacta's/trifecta's with the help of their tips.

Gator's tips & JJ's tips can be found on Racing.com on Saturday mornings as well.  Wednesday evening's for Gator's tips for the advanced knowledge.  Nathan Exelby has a bit of a reputation (QLD racing) so I might start looking at his tips to see if he is any good.

And then of course there is the Flemington Forecaster himself - @Dee Zephyr ... DZ is trumping all of them at the moment with 5 from 5 from his last 5!  I'm just wondering when the Caulfield Correspondent ( @Wadda We Sing ) is going to grace us with his presence again (?)  Our strike is improving but we need all the help that we can get!

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
