That 9th race was a terrific finish....Oliver from the back of the field ..early......Ive only got 1 all up left Macca....Hellova Street into Crystal Dreamer..into ....Petition in the last. So come on Petition...a place will do.

Ok so Ascot next week huh.......i dont usually follow the overseas races, but let me know what you like......i might have a look. What time is it on??

The 'Perth' Ascot ... ha ha.  There's about 20 group races in Ascot right throughout the year.  As always, the better horses are involved so the form lines are reasonably clear.  A few of the Eastern States horses make the trip over there (for the Group races) so there's some familiarity.

I don't often bet at Ascot but will do when there's not much prime action in the Eastern states.  Time span is about 4pm to 9pm (AEDT)

Good luck with Petition ... it should be in the finish if given a reasonable run.

Oh that Ascot...haha. Railway Stakes and all that.......I remember making a good dollar on W Pike over there, was always a good thing. Yes ill be having a look so ill see you on here then! Cheers

I do notice the only Waterhouse runner (Long Time Ago) for the day is in this last race at 19/1.....seems odd to just bring 1 horse and a long shot at that....they had a good carnival so you never know!

Well there you go....

All the form goes out the window if your horse doesn't get a decent run or is held up for a run.  Or, in the case of Petition, the horse gets too far back.  That's racing.  And sometimes in order to win one needs bad luck to befall other horses.

'Art Series' won in fine style in the G3 7th race at Ascot on Saturday ... the trainer described the horse as one who never stops trying to get to the lead.

Might be worth looking at for it's next run.

 Hi all.

Dan Zephyr has accepted on Ballarat Cup day.

Lumped with 61kg but Jack Martin will take the ride and claim the 3kg. Once again unlucky drawing barrier 14.

Will have more updates later in the week to determine whether the horse is worth a buck or two.

Good luck trying to find a winner in the 2 feature races at Ascot tomorrow ... I'm not sure I want to tarnish my 4-3-0 record (4 picks,  3 winners,  0 placings)!!

I've had a good look at the form anyway have narrowed it down to 5 horses in the Guineas & 6 horses in the Railway Stakes.  So it's almost certainly multiples only for me.  There is some value there though so the dividends could be quite hefty with the right combinations.

Art Series caught my eye last start and although it's a step up in class,  the horse can perform well if it gets a clear run.

Race 7 (W.A. Guineas) ... Achernar StarMoney Mahar,  Salubrious,  Art Series & Sophia's Secret

And I like Pounamu for a bit of each-way value in race 8 but to be perfectly honest,  any number of horses can win this wide-open betting affair.

Race 8 (Railway Stakes) ... Black Heart Bart,  Scales of Justice,  Tom MelbourneSilverstream,  Gatting & Pounamu

Big electrical storm here in Ballarat. Heavy rain for 30 mins, track a bit chopped up past the winning post, but otherwise ok. Need the rain for the vege garden!! Havent heard anything much except the usual follow Weir, drink beer. I do like Grey Lion, Second Bullet and Mr Garcia in the Cup. The rest are pretty tricky.

In Perth i see W Pike is still ridding around and ill be on him and Silverstream. I also like Scales of justice (local fav i believe) and Black Heart Bart i always bet on regardless.

Good luck with the multiples.....im going to do a quad, but not confident.

I haven't tuned in yet Wadda - watching the cricket.

It's a small straight at Ascot and a lot of horses can get blocked for runs in the Guineas & Railway Stakes.  Mainly because the fields are so even.

Barrier draws are all important too ... I reckon the trifecta & first 4 dividends could be quite healthy.  I've parlayed a few as well (3 races only)

Ok nice work then Macca. Yes WA Pyke is just continuing on another 1st in the previous race. only one he missed the horse was scratched at the barrier after injuring itself......

I noticed England was 5.50....not bad. If they can get to 220 plus, you know what we are like chasing a low score! Good luck in the multiples.

Great Shot ran a close 2nd to Silverstream over 1400m (Group 2) last start so the form was there with the extra 200m to run.  Tough race to find a winner though Wadda.  My horse (Pounamu) was coming from too far back for this sort of field.

I've got 'See me Sizzle' (Pike) in a couple of multiples in race 9 (the get-out stakes)

Excellent work there Macca. I am also on the WA Pyke get out stakes! I actually only need him to run a place and all will be well. How many more Ascot Carnival race meets are there? I think its 1 more isnt it??

There's a Group 1 next week (Winterbottom Stakes 1200m) and another Group 1 a week after that (Kingston Town Classic 1800m)  ... both are million dollar races so the fields should be good.

The racing has really come on over time out of WA.  In fact, the group races continues at Ascot right up to New Years day.  I'll have a small wager on the feature races.

Yes i thought it was the Winterbottom. Not sure what the Kingston Town race is all about, but ill have a look. WA Pyke had 6 placings out of a possible 7 races. So ill just parlaying him for the next few weeks.....i honestly thought hed retired. Thanks for punting again. :)

Yep ... I'll be following Pike as well.  He''s the parlay king!

I take it you got a nice collect Wadda ... well done.  I had no such luck but had a couple of collects to break even.

It's got me thinking about doing 4 or 5 parlays next week (3 races only with one 5 or 6 leg parlay to win big)  And Pike will probably be on a number of fancied horses so he'll probably be my conduit (your's too I'm guessing!)

Yes well Macca, thats the strategy indeed. Because you have situations like yesterday where one leg got shot because the horse got injured at the barrier, which was my second leg. No subs in Parlays (although there damn well should be!) Several shorter legs helps with that one or two bad legs, such as Silverstream yesterday.

There is that bet stratergy however where you can miss a leg by pushing another button, and it allows the carry over, despite one leg missing, although i tried it once and it didnt seem to pay very much at all and it cost double to put on i think?? Ill have to investigate again.

But he certainly put on a clinic yesterday and does it regularly over there as he gets a lot of good rides. Well im certainly keen to have another go, im a fair way in front now. Still dont want to give it back too quick. Had several reds in Mr Pykes honor last night. Oow my head. :)

I was just having a look at the Moonga Stakes at Caulfield back in March won by Voodoo Lad ( a fav of mine). Dan Zephyr had a pretty good run, looks like the weights might have beaten him at the end there, but it was up there most of the way. He will win some races.

https://www.racing.com/videos/2016-10-15/voodoo-lads-moonga-stakes

Voodoo Lad goes around in the Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. 26/1

Opps, no he doesnt, didnt make the final field......must have been why he was 26/1!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
