Great discussion, but we don't seem to be a candidate, according to the newsboys.

They don't always know everything. Plenty of instances where the newsboys have not had a clue what was coming.

By the sound of it other then Hibberd it will be a very quite trade period for Goodwin..

By sheer weight of supporter numbers, there are much more rumor mongers out there for the big clubs and so every club is linked to Coll, RIch, Ess & Haw

Must agree that Crossy was a great move, and boy did he give his all. Nick Dal would be a great asset if he stays fit and his heart is still in it, and I would much rather him to Boomer. Although no question Boomer is a champ with plenty still to give, honestly I always found him to be a bit of a ball hog, thoughts???

Definite no to Boomer. He has maintained amazing form but I just can't see him giving his heart to any club other than North. Of all the mature players being delisted and wanting to continue playing, Del Santo would be my pick but I am just not convinced it is our greatest need at present.

What Goodwin would want from a mature recruit is leadership, inspiration and a mentor on and off the field like Crossy was. Just because a player has had a great career doesn't mean they bring those other qualities. Only those in the inner sanctum truly know who fits that bill from what's out there currently. If we go that route then I'd prefer someone who can improve our young guys 2-3% over someone only playng on for selfish reasons. If Goody feels no external options fit our need then I'm sure he won't recruit them simply because the team would look better on paper.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
