Anyone purchased the new AFL game yet? I bought it at the beginning of the weekend.

The gameplay isn't too bad, very similar to the previous games. I was particularly looking forward to the career mode in which you create your own player and take control of the club - the interface for this isn't very friendly and after 2013 season I took the Dees to 9 and 13 and I was sacked! So not too sure what is going on there.

Any thoughts?

I got it for my 11 year old son (it arrived from JB HiFi last Monday) and he has been playing it every day since. From the sounds coming out of his room, he seems to be loving it, but he did comment that he had to relearn all of the basic controls because they had changed with this version (he also has AFL 1). His also came with a small metallic blue Auskick style footy.

Had never heard of 2 coming out, but in terms of Gameplay, the first one was rubbish. I guess AFL is just not big enough in the world to attract a really good developer. When you look at something like Fifa they are nowhere near each other. Hopefully with time it'll get better

I suppose there just isn't enough interest from gamers to warrant putting a lot of money into making it either, not many people will buy it.

I feel a bit too old to playing it now!

Don't worry, he's extremely mature for his age :)

I personal hate these types of games but that no reason other should not enjoy them.

As I am more a MMO gamer myself.

The average age for gamers in Australia was around 32 last I saw.

I have player with guys around the world but the oldest I think was a South Australian lady who I guess was over 70. So you are never too old to play.

That's good news, I've got a good decade left then before I even hit the average. I'm going to give the career mode another crack this arvo after work, still annoyed that I got sacked after taking us to 9 and 13 for the 2013 season!

Bought this today and have played it for a few hours. Seems better than the last version but nowhere near FIFA standards.

They obviously didn't program all the names into the commentary because they referred to Toumpas and Terlich as "No. 5" and "No. 46" respectively yet they knew Clisby's name. Go figure.

Cost saving I suppose! The career mode isn't anywhere near as good as I was hoping.

It will never be a game like FIFA because lots of money is put into EA games because they had a more wider fan base than Aussie Rules which mostly has a fan base of Victorians, South Australians etc.

I played NAB cup on easy and beat Carlton by 198 points so i changed it too normal for the first few matches and then went hard for the rest, didn't lose a game kicked 90 odd goals with my player and kicked 80 odd with Clark and then just went easy in the grand final so i could smash Freo and ended up kicking 19 with my guy, won the Norm Smith, the brownlow and the Coleman, and then got 9 offers from other clubs.

This is why Melbourne need to recruit me, i'd win them a coleman, brownlow and a norm smith, hahaha ;)

I know this is an old thread but only just saw it.

I got the game as soon as it came out, and was very disappointed by it. Game play wasnt even close to afl live 1. Far too slow, and can't keep the play moving at a good pace, and if you choose the option to have your defenders stick to their man, you still find them 20-30m away in no mans land, same thing with the computer defenders, changing the option seems to have no impact. They should've sticked with the melbourne guys at big ant (made afl live 1) and just updated the graphics and put in the career mode and we would've finally had a decent afl game to enjoy, instead of turning to a company (wicked witch) that is mostly focused on rugby games.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
