Knee injury forces Rodan to retire

Featured Replies

Why not? We had Morton for a one year deal and we shipped him off and we got Rodan for the same draft pick. Regardless of on field work it seems Rodan contributed a lot more off the field. Which was the primary motivation for getting him.

I for one am sick of the so called commentators hitting us from both sides in the media. We pension off too many old blokes we get whacked. We go and get David Rodan and we still get whacked. Which one is it?

Theres not another club in the AFL that would give a guy thats done 3 ACL a 2 yr deal, thats why we get whacked.

David Rodan will be welcome anytime at the MFC.

Hopefully his 3 kids will wear Red & Blue Jumpers.

The playing list loved him. That is a positive.

GOTY.

morton for pick 88

pick 88 for rodan

see it how you like but if you wabt to get technical thats how it was

I get technical or I can talk about the 'spirit' of both deals - which was moving players for a pick that was not used on a player in the draft - a nothing pick.

Pure happenstance saw us trade that pick for Rodan and then Port traded that pick for Stevenson and then WCE traded that pick for Morton.

You can criticise the club for letting Morton go for nothing but leave Rodan out of it - we got him for nothing.

Im surprised he got a 2 year deal. I think we got more out of him off field where he obviously was a mentor to the young ones than what we got off him on the field.

However I think its sad he has done his knee again.

I think he will be more annoyed he will miss the footy show review.

Buts thats 3 changes off our list already. How many players do you have to clear at the end of the year?

Morton would have to be a monty to get delisted this year anyway, wouldnt he?

Unless he's somehow contracted for next year.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
