As someone who has always tried to see some sort of hope every week, I think this week will be a shocker for us.

Sydney more than any other team in the competition this year have the potential to smash every clearance record that's ever stood with two top ruckman & an abundance of clearance midfield machines.

I think our backline will do a good enough job on containing Tippett but...

I worry about their gut running mids and half forwards flooding down and kicking their 2-3 each because our mids are either too indisciplined or tired to chase back.

I worry that Horse Longmire has his troops so well disciplined that once it actually goes in their forward line, they will press so hard that the only way to get it out is for them to score (hopefully a behind).

I worry that because of this Dawes, Howe & Watts will be doing their best work 100 metres from goals chasing a kick and when they get it there is nobody to kick to.

As you can tell, I am worried about this game.

I hope that I'm wrong but I think it will be a 130-50 scoreline.

If we get within 6 goals the media scum may leave us alone for another week which is what I'm hoping for.

Am I wrong or have I just been mentally scarred by this season??

Deemolition, did you see my post earlier?

I wasn't quite as dire but said similar thing re ruck and clearances. I think they should try and do something like the following:

-Focusing on neutralising the clearances- ie no fast breaks with clean possessions and look to force bombs out of packs.

-Set up "expecting" to lose the clearance, and focus on winning the ball back from the clearing kick. This may involve using the differences in ground size- Sydney may instinctively kick to areas on the mcg which aren't the usually "go to" areas on the smaller ground. We need to identify these abs have soar Neen of defenders ready.

-Look to counter attack whenever we win possession by having our mids run hard to make position for continued chains of uncontested possession.

-Avoid stoppages as much as possible

-Try and spread their backs across the bigger forward line to stop them getting back to help each other

-Implement our forward press like last week.

I think of we do those things we should be able to stay in touch for the first 3/4 but I can't see it lasting all day! Although confidence can do wonders!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
