Time to offer Jack Watts a 3 year contract @ $525 per year

Featured Replies

I think his contract and a few other contracts need to be performance based.

It's no good paying anyone $300k+ p.a. for 3 years, it has been proven time and time again in the past.

They only pull their finger out in the year their contract comes up for renewal.

T.J. & Sylvia are prime examples. Davey put in a blinder and got a 4 year contract and hasn't had a kick since.

So we are going to have Hogan, Dawes, Watts and Clark all in our forward line if fit? Way to build a balanced list.

We need midfielders, small forwards and decent half-bank flankers with laser like kicks.

Of those mentioned Hogan & Dawes will be the only stay at home forwards.

Clark will be our 2nd ruck/forward and Watts will be a 4th tall forward across half forward and may have stints on the wing or half back when required along with Howe so those two and Clark effectively become part of the midfield rotations. Throw in Viney, N. Jones, Grimes, Sylvia, Evans, M. Jones, Trengove, Toumpas, Blease, insert FA, insert Dunstan or Aish or Billings and you've got the makings of our midfield.

We need to develop Watts to play on ball. His versatility to play in a number of positions and generate play is crucial for us moving forward. If he keeps building his intensity and agro he will be a fantastic player.

Hawks - buddy rough gunston

Eagles - Kennedy darling cox/niknat lecra

Dees - Mitch Dawes hogan watts

It's actually bloody brilliant. There not all going to start in the goal square. I think it was a Collingwood games a couple of years ago, fullback kicked to Brown who kicked to Dawes who kicked to Cloke who kicked a goal. Ball was moved faster up the ground then anyone could run. We know we need mids, we picked up Viney and Toumpas in the draft and will look to use this years picks on mids.

one would hope watts would become a better player than dawes fairly quickly with a good coach and a constant run up forward, maybe throwing big dollars at stokes would make it a very complete forward line assuming Byrnes and Rodan aren't around next year?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
