"Neeld type" players

We've all been impressed with the coach's tough talk and his ruthless attitude with our list. But really, has he made the list any better? Excluding draft picks we've seen these guys come in:

Magner - rookie listed this year, meat and potatoes depth player

Sellar - ordinary last year, depth player

Pederson - early, but has done close to nothing so far

Gillies - very bad today, hasn't shown much else

Rodan - depth player at best

Byrnes - very ordinary today, depth player

Dawes - yet to play

Terlich - technically a draft pick, yet to play

Clark - fantastic edition, unlucky with injuries

Aside from Clark and hopefully Dawes, all of those players are depth players and don't seem to add much to our list. Some are too early to call, but we should be keeping a close eye on this list, especially seeing that Neeld's grace period came to a sudden halt today.

I believe there is no middle ground to what he has done/will do with us. It's make or break, and looking at the above list I'm in fear of yet another rebuild.

Dean Kent and Terlich are better than half our list. matt Jones isnt far behind and was in our top 6.

Should have included M.Jones, missed him there, have hopes for him. I didn't include Kent, Toumpas, Viney, Barry etc as they are first year draft picks and I'm talking more about the players Neeld has brought in rather than drafted, if you get me.

It's relevant to consider what we traded/spent to get some of these players.

For instance, Magner is a rookie and we picked up Rodan with pick 180.

I disagree a bit, that's a bit like Homer Simpson being excited about his coupon for 2 for 1 pizzas at "Doughies"... "They have terrible pizzas" "But there's 2!!"

Attack all you want, but I'm calling it early.

Neeld will be given time to build his own team.

Three or four 'names' will go.

Sylvia, Watts, Garland, Davey, perhaps Jamar will be shown the door.

I'm ready to bump this up in October.

i was prepared to wait and give it a go, but im not so sure this "moneyball" approach is not going to come off for Neeld

I guess there is a reason they weren'tgetting a game for their old clubs

But Sylvia, Watts, Garland, Davey and Jamar are sill better than Sellar, Gillies, Pederson, Rodan and Byrnes.... (as sad as that is)

Perhaps - but, the aforementioned have had several years at the same club....and continue to disappoint.

But you're right, Sellar, G, P, R and B are no game breakers.

Garland and Watts won't go.

Jamar would be no loss and we should've traded him when we had the chance - before free agency, bad list management.

Davey will probably be delisted and unless Sylvia can do something, he'd be no loss atm.

That's where I'm feeling a bit lost about our list. There's so little talent overall at the moment.

I think they will - they've been teasers since they started.

Pole dancers - writhe, tease, tantalise, but don't touch. Never finish the job.

We can't continue to finish last, or near last every year and then offload the high draft picks we get several years later. We can't continue to stuff up our draft selections every year and then say a couple of years later, it doesn't matter where the player was picked it's how he performs; we are entitled to believe that if we get a top ten pick he will perform like one.

Imagine if we had two Jack Vineys today; well we could have if we picked Olie Wines instead of Jimmy Toumpass and as much as I like Jimmy I reckon that Olie would be a better player for us. By the time Jimmy hits his straps it might be too late for us.

I'll say one thing about Jimmy Toumpas and Ollie Wines....

Why, oh, why, (assuming both boys are close in talent, Toumpas and Wines) wouldn't you pick the boy who CATEGORICALLY stated he wanted to come to the club with Jack. Ollie and Jack played footy together, virtually grew up together in Echuca.

As Rhino would say, FMD.

QUOTE: 'Wines said that while "fairytales" did not always come true, it would be a dream to join Melbourne and reunite with Jack, who signed with the club last month.'

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
