No, Bob McKenzie missed the 1954 GF V Footscray because of suspension. (He had a fist fight with North Melbourne's Percy Johnson in the preliminary final). He did NOT miss playing in the1948 GF draw V Essendon because of suspension. He was out injured.

These facts are verified in the 'Encyclopedia of Melbourne Players' (Holmesby & Main).

The fight in '54 is mentioned, nothing however about the '48 GF draw.

It's mentioned under Doug Heywood, which is where this discussion started.

Bit lucky there. I went to La Trobe University when it was in it's infancy, and we sometimes used Parade College as a change room. Used to be a heap of stuff about our ex-skipper on the walls. A stat that stuck in my head. Probably all gone now, 45 years later.

Think there are too many of us that have suffered for so long, and read books of a long gone era.

I lived through the majority of that long gone era...sigh :)
