2012 Player Review - # 15 Ricky Petterd

After a positive NAB Cup campaign, including a stand out game against Collingwood, Ricky was hit hard by injury for most of the season, which impacted his ability to string games together, seeing him playing only four AFL games in total. At his best, Ricky is a dynamic forward, capable in the air and at ground level.  He needs his body to be fully fit to enable him to perform at AFL level. We anticipate that his most recent surgery will give him every chance to complete a full pre-season. - Paul Satterly (Forward line development coach) melbournefc.com.au

Horrible season. Second only to Moloney in terms of regression. Too many flaws in his game, including that high-ball drop kicking action that he's seemingly made no effort to correct. Delist.

time to move ricky on i think, doesn't appear to want it enough

Probably gone but let's not forget that he missed about half the season with injury.

Incredible to think that he was going to go through the season without kicking a goal.

He did struggle with injury for most of the season.

When fully fit he is a danger in the forward line to opposition.

Heard he was battling achilles problems all year.

Definitely keep.

He has X factor when fit and firing.

Just needs a solid pre-season.

Ricky can certainly play, so I think he is worth keeping. I have always thought he would be better played off a HBF as he did in 2007, rather than a mid sized leading forward.

If the club can't turn him around next year it will reflect poorly on their player management skills.

It’s been a season of grit, growth, and glimpses of brilliance—mixed with a few tough interstate lessons. Now, with finals looming, the Dees head to Kardinia Park for one last tune-up before the real stuff begins.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
