Hard to beat that one.

Is this a veiled attempt to get the thread back on topic?

Yeah it was ! But I should have posted something amusing to "stay in the mood" ! Maybe later !

Been wanting to post some retro stuff for ages btw , there's so much from the Stones , The Who and the Fab Four that I could put up .

We might get 'Wyl' back with us if that happens .

Cheers JJ and here's one of my favourite Beatles songs - .

In the true spirit of Eddie and the boys I'm not a huge music video fan (so why the hell am I posting here!), but I do like this one - it's a damn fine album too.

This is the 1st track from The Rolling Stones 1972 classic album "Exile on Main St" . A brilliant album and arguably their best . This song is underrated IMO . Slide show only .

Stay strong Macca. Keep fighting the good fight.

Can't say I've ever been a huge Stones fan. Having said that Gimme Shelter is up there as one of the all time great songs.

Yeah , with regards to the Stones , I was never a huge fan but did like quite a number of their songs . But after discovering "Exile on Main St" ( 1972 ) and "Sticky Fingers" ( their 1971 album ) my opinion has changed a lot . Stones at their best - earthy , great driving rock n roll . And I reckon it stands up more than well . Their use of a fair bit of brass was in some ways quite unique .

I now have a way more open mind to all sorts of rock ( and jazz of course ) whereas quite a few people I know have gone the other way . It's all about embracing the new ( within reason ) and retro IMO .

I'd like to explore a few more bands from the 60's and 70's . More your classic bands such as The Who . Moody Blues , Led Zeppelin , Deep Purple and the like . I know a lot of their hits buts it's their other stuff I'd like to explore .

Btw , I'm right into the Stone Temple Pilots thanks to your good self .

Cheers JJ

A kick arse song from one of the Albums of 2011 (for me anyway) and I love the video because I think it's taking the [censored] out of the entire industry and the obsession with turning music video's into hollywood blockbusters

Oh and Macca I agree. Exile on Main St is one of the all time great albums. Let it Bleed, Beggars Banquet Exile On Main Street and Sticky Fingers were a real high water mark for the Stones

Terrific choice and keep posting . Great to have you on board !

Suppose my whole idea of the music video is that it aids as a hook to get people to listen to a song . Btw , post anything you like video or no video . Lots of great rock doesn't have a music video . As I said , it's just a hook .

And I agree with you that it's the music that really counts but as a means to an end ....................

So far the thread has been angst free . My thoughts are that if people don't like , just scroll to something you do like . There should be something here for everyone ( for rock fans )

Cheers , Macca

I was listening to Led Zeppelin II last night whilst on a bit of a road trip. I'd forgotten how good that album was.

Bring It On Home was the perfect song to end the album. Love it.

I've posted a Stone Temple Pilots video before, but what can I say, they're fricken awesome.

I've recently been trying to get out of the habit of being a fat bastard and STP have got me through a few tough sessions.

The first song is from their album Tiny Music. It's probably a fairly underrated album, mainly due to Scott Weiland's drug issues at the time which restricted them from being able to properly promote/tour the album. This song was also the encore to their Melbourne concert last year.

The second song is from their Purple album. The album is probably best know for the song Interstate Love Song.

Edit: I can't embed the official clips. So there's a link to them instead.

Couple of classics there JJ from STP . I think you're right . All there songs offer something .

Here's a track from "Lacuna Coil" , an Italian gothic metal band (now there's a combination !)

This band have had some chart success and I just love bands with a female lead singer . Evanescence , Paramore , No Doubt and Flyleaf being amongst my favourites .

This song is one their hits . It did well in the US and the UK .

A couple from me:

Brian Setzer Orchestra (former Stray Cats foray into big band rockabilly - and these guys seriously rock! - imho of course):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncrILTdBywo

The Fratellis "Henrietta" of their Costello Music CD... a fun band who, for some reason, remind me a little of Blur"

And a couple more...

One of my favourite Japanese bands The Blue Hearts and a song called "Linda Linda" (there is a rather good Japanese movie of the same name based around this song - about an all girl band in a high school talent show performing the same song). On a side note, a band I was in used to confuse pub patrons when we played this song:

And my favourite Radiohead song "Karma Police":

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
