He would be better off holding Gillies hand as he can't play either. Pedersen at least has shown a bit especially at Casey.

Gillies will be gone Redleg he is only on a one year deal.

Pity Byrnes was not on the same.

Amazing we made such an effort to get three players for Casey.

I suppose we are helping our team develop players

Being brutal, I can see Byrnes, Gillies, Jetta, Bail, MacDonald, Davey and possibly Sellar and Strauss leaving/retiring and maybe Jamar being traded. I think Pedersen stays another year as he is contracted for 2 more.

Byrnes I would pay out and offer him a year at Casey playing/coaching.

If we were offered a mid for Tapscott I could see him going.

I think we will make at least 8 changes to the senior list.

This is getting really serious Redleg, I am in total agreement again.

Davey and Macdonald are past it and the rest never where.

Yes that is 2 votes bb

Mine makes 3!

I forgot Troy Davis, but I think they will keep him for another year. He is a big strong boy who is hard at it and if he can improve his kicking, is a chance.

After all the agreement of earlier today Redleg trouble is on the horizon.

Davis's kicking ability will go the same way as Mckenzie, Nicholson and G Mac.

IMO poor kickers generally stay that way.

Average kicks can etch out an AFL career poor ones do not.

Replace them with players who can kick, they just break your heart and keep you anchored in the bottom half of the competition.

we have to kick this habit of nursing bad-kickers til we eventually off load them anyway.

Dont draft anyone who cant bloody kick!!

Hard to argue against that.

Yet something so simple has NOT been overly observed to date. Beggars belief really

I guess bb and Redleg when you get to the point in the draft when Nicholson, Mckenzie and Davis were selected you are getting to the bottom of the barrel. They would not be high / Rookie picks if they were perfect.

If Mckenzie was a good kick he would have gone in the first round.

If only he could kick!!!!!!!

But the thing I simply dont get is how ANYONE gets to the point of being in the draft, being considered for AFL ( the highest level of the game ) and cant f'n kick a ball. How does this occur

An analogy being a stool, surely kicking is one of the legs, without which it falls over.

The same thing makes me wonder too bb.

However I think it has a lot to do with the size of the player pool required for the AFL level now.

With the addition of two new teams we have had to find a min. of another 80 players.

IMO these players would not have made the cut in years gone by.

IMO the talent pool is now stretched too far.

That is one factor. Another is the difference between kicking per se and kicking under pressure. I suspect the latter is a lot more difficult.

Watch Davis at training R & B IMO he is no better then than on game day.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
