Nev Jet in

With JT out I think NevJet is the next best alternative around packs. Trengove has been doing so much work in close and really is looking like he will be our Jimmy Bartel. He quietly goes about doing the right things and in the most honest way. Jetta doesn't have his skill or class but he does have that willingness for the contest. I'm glad he has come in as a possible inside stoppage player for the next couple of weeks, or at least until JT and Jordie are back. I like Jetta's grunt. If you read the new article on the club website it seems that the FD do too.

no, trengove is going to be our luke hodge

i rate nev and think he could become a mini byron picket for us. love how he enjoys the rough stuff!

I haven't really rated Jetta, but BP mentions two things that suggest he might have more than I've seen.

First, BP suggests that Jetta isn't particularly suited to a small defensive forward role. Maybe I'm judging him harshly if he hasn't been able to play a role he's suited for, but it also sounds like he's got to get much fitter to play a midfield role. (I also think he's way back in the queue, but hey).

Second, BP asserts that Jetta was a good kick at junior level, and isn't sure why we haven't seen that from him at AFL level. Maybe he's a better kick than I've given him credit for.

However, at the moment I'm pretty underwhelmed. I would have been happy enough seeing Joel Mac coming in and play a defensive role, releasing guys already in the team to play further up the ground.

Two of the players who impressed during an otherwise dismal pre season for Melbourne were Neville Jetta and Addam Maric.

However, when the real stuff began, they both failed to impress and were dropped back to the Casey Scorpions after a couple of rounds. They showed there that they were a cut above VFL standard and both stood out in a tough game against Port Melbourne. Maric came back last week and played his best game for the Demons last week and now it's Nev's turn.

I have to admit that until I saw him play at Port Melbourne I was skeptical about his ability to play the middle but he half convinced me that day. Now, he has to go that step further and prove it in an AFL game and I think Etihad against North is the perfect place for him to emulate Maric's performance last week.

The Jetta's are big favourites here at Demonland. Father Nev and brother Rodney played for the Demonland/Demonology team in the off season. Dad is still a fair footballer into his 50s while Rod has gone on to play for the Zebras and kicked a couple of bags in their twos. And Mrs. J is a terrific mentor and role model who writes terrific songs and has appeared at MFC functions.

I wish Nev and the entire family all the best for a big day today.

WJ I could not have written my feeling better than above.

I believe over the next couple of weeks both Maric and Jetta have the chance to show their worth.

Jetta isn't necessarily a long kick, but I've always thought of him as a good kick.

When he takes a mark he does that Bob Murphy thing where he wheels around off the mark and nearly always finds an option further afield with his kick, and it results in a mark.

He seems to make good decisions in regards to maintaining possession.

He's also a tough little bugger.

Anyone got the link?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
