Poor Old Kangas...

Featured Replies

What a sad thread.

Poor arguments.

Which club plays 40 Sunday games in 3 years and little or no Friday night games, which club doesn't have a stadium deal, blah blah blah.

Whatever. The issue remains that, in league terms we are a minnow. I have no problem with that as I don't have an inferiority complex like others on this site. I just think that throwing stones at North when they are struggling is really poor form considering our position, especially our position 3 short years ago. It's like the guy who gets bullied turning around and bullying the smaller kids, it just doesn't sit well with me.

But Roost, don't you think North had their chance 3 years ago & turned their back on it?

We were in a similiar position yes, But our supporters & Club have rallied, as we must continue to do.

By staying in Melbourne North are only going backwards...sad but true.

pft it is not like that all, are you high or what? We are talking about the survival of our football club in a tough competitive climate, your schoolyard comparison is utter BS.

do you think 7200 members is a lot? Because I don't, and if we had that many more we would have the 3rd biggest Victorian membership base ahead of so-called superpower, Essendon. This is coming off two spoons then 14th then 13th. Our attendances are 8th in the comp. I have stated this so many times but not one of you North-sympathisers with inferiority complexes have acknowledged it.

as pointed out above, the playing field is obviously not even. Our commercial prospects are at a disavantage compared to other clubs, which the AFL evens up through use of THE COMPETITIVE BALANCE FUND any idea what that is smart guy?

let's imagine North went totally under and folded. Then let's say we didn't grow as a club as we hoping to. You don't agree that the AFL would be doing more to ensure our survival if a traditional club has just gone under. If North and Melbourne were to both fold in quick succession there would be outrage, so yes, their death ensures our survival to a degree. Also, there are only 9 teams sharing the membership pie instead of 10, that one is pretty obvious.

But Roost, don't you think North had their chance 3 years ago & turned their back on it?

You honestly think that this was a viable option for those who love North Melbourne and wanted it to remain as their club?

If that were offered to the Dees 3 years ago, I would've rather have risked death in Melbourne.

Since when does a death of a club "ensure" anyone's survival including ours ?

Has Fitzroy's death ensured anyone else's survival ? There's no guarantees. Clubs must do their utmost each year to keep the doors open and make sure they are financially viable for the long term survival in the AFL.

Maybe you are right 45...and yes North are slowly dying. With the 2 new clubs taking all the money North are going to be a distant 3rd in the handout stakes.

The AFL would be stoked at the turnaround in Melbourne, not only have we cleared our debt, but it was done by the supporters.

Stage 1 complete.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
