Kyle Matthews on the comeback trail

Courageous Casey skipper Kyle Matthews is on the comeback trail and while he has been impressive to date, coach Brad Gotch says there are still some hurdles ahead - VFL: Casey Scorpions keep fingers crossed over skipper

"It was a serious head knock and until we get to the practice games we won't know. We'll keep our fingers crossed that everything is all right."

Defender Michael Stockdale, who missed the second-half of last season with a knee injury, is also on the way back to boost the club's playing stocks.

All power to Kyle in working his way back from such a dreadful position.

Kyle Matthews played in the reserves match against Sandy yesterday

Was wearing a helmet for obvious reasons...thought he looked pretty good after such a long lay off

Considering what he's been through, yesterday was a big step back for him...

Great to see him back

Fantastic to see he was even a starter. No doubt he is so courageous he'll make it back. And good on him.

Any MFC players involved in game against Frankston @ Casey this Saturday?

Apart from the helmet Kyle Matthews against Frankston, was no different to Kyle Matthews before he was king hit. He hit the contests just as hard as he ever has. Would have to be one of the gutsiest players I have ever watched, even more so with what he has been through this past year.

Haven't seen a lot of Kyle play, however when I have he has impressed me with his ball winning ability. If this year goes well for him, anyone think he is a Smokie to be rookied next year? I think the MFC should watch him closely this year.

It would not surprise me if Kyle Matthews was on the radar of a few clubs prior to his injury. I hope he has a great year on and off the field.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
