MFC Training

Featured Replies

agree it can be misread but i think it is usually meant over a season long kinda thing?

and thats not soo true about october i have a few mates who play afl, and they work themselves quite hard over october so they dont lose anything, or get in a position where they could cause themself an injury during preseason

Ever heard of a little thing called dry wit? Or sarcasm, perhaps?

FWIW, I agree with some others that Newton's been told to chuck on some weight in the pre-season in preparation for a pinch-hitting role in the ruck. There's plenty of time to trim down and get definition but I'd wager under that healthy layer of insulation that there would be some significant muscle bulk.

And JT looks like he's added some considerable height and weight since last pre-season. He should become quite an imposing unit on the field.

The few weeks between the end of the season and the start of training is full of magic! Players can bulk up, grow taller or turn to blobs with the click of a Canon.

God-damn Newton. I want him to succeed so much, just to shut you flogs up, but how can I defend a guy who looks like that? Nice computer, though.

Same here, and Man City? argh

Any sign of Gawn?

Gawn, Tappy and Strauss have been running laps every time I see them out on the track. Must have had some surgery during the break. Today I saw the boys running the tan, I stoped and watched them all run by. The lead group included Sculls, Morton, Moloney, Sylvia, Trenners, Jones and last by a LONG way was LJ who was getting pushed along by one of the fitness guys.

They must have done a few K's because I saw them running up towards Exhibition St on Yarra Blvd, They didn't seen to be breaking any land speed records though.

Unfortunately I just caught the end of the boys training today and wasn't going to bother posting, but from what I saw in two minutes...

Jack Watts - had to look hard to be sure it was him, and maybe because he's shaved his head, but he looked to have significantly bulked up. He is definately not like Morton, rather it looks like he will fill out really well. both his upper and lower body looked heavier, and I reckon by the end of this pre-season (barring injury) he will be close to his ideal playing weight. After that just a matter of definition and strengthening.

Jake Spencer - Watched Jake having a few shots on goal from fifty (think he's getting confident after his feats in China). It is clear that he has been working hard on his kicking technique. Where normally he looks like he's playing hacky sack when kicking the footy, he was guiding the ball quite nicely from hand to foot and was kicking a good distance. As mentioned last week, he is looking super strong and next year he and Jamar should be a physically intimidating duo in the centre square for the Dees. Positive signs.

Jordie McKenzie - Looks physically bigger as well, good muscle definition.

Other Notes - the boys who were training were again the younger cohort rather than the full team training. Spotted LJ and Sculls, also clearly identified Tom Macnamara running around and looking very fit. I guess the dees are planning to re-rookie or maybe now that Bruce has left, will consider re-drafting...either way he's still training with the club.

Sorry, hopefully someone else can help out with more info.

Cheers

Thanks :)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
