Commitments kept me away from this site for most of the last couple of months so I only sporadically tipped (plus I lost a bit

of interest in this NFL season when it became apparent the Niners were going to go from Superbowl participants to also rans due to one of the most savage injury lists I've ever seen).
Nevertheless thanks again for putting this on each year @Macca its appreciated as it gets me hyped at the start of every year to have a crack at tipping...

Yeah thanks Dave

And thanks for playing your part.  I usually post up more on the NFL in general but have been quite busy with work this last 2 years

So running the comps has been about it!

Gorg keeps plugging away though and Dappa should be back soon enough as well

It's a great sport to follow in our Spring/Summer as 7Mate broadcasts 2 games a week (and all the playoffs) ... youtube has a host of action & highlights so it's easy to keep up even without cable

The season is way too short though!

Your 49ers have been up and down in the recent past but so much can depend on the QB.  But very good (QB) can work in the absence of exceptional

Need a good team regardless of the QB ... as we saw with Tampa who were good/great everywhere.

To restrict KC to 9 points was remarkable.  Tom,  Gronk,  Fournette,  Jones & Evans were the cream on top (if one believes in the philosophy that defence wins Championships)

Bring on next season. Can we get Aaron Rogers to the 49ers somehow ?

Never fear, we're bringing back Josh Rosen so we're all set :p

RE: Shaw Barrett I loved his game too. Personally would have loved him to get MVP he really set the tone for the game and brought the heat to Mahomes time and time again. Historically though if you don't do something crazy like run a pick back for a touchdown you don't get a look in.

Russell Wilson looks like he is angling towards leaving Seattle!!!

Eagles wanting the same sort of Draft picks for Wentz.... ha ha what!?!?!??

Seems that way for the first time in his career. Made it pretty clear he's unhappy with their line.

Also belated thanks to @Macca for the comp. But not too much thanks because I never come close to winning!

I reckon this off season will be brutal. So t think Wilson will traded but will he is already demanding a better oline so he doesn’t get sacked as much.

Wilson possibly moving?  I thought he was firmly entrenched at Seattle.  We've seen Goff & Stafford move so you never know

The chat about Rodgers has dissapated but both QB's have sounded-off which disappoints me somewhat.  Behind closed doors is where the chatter should stay

And apparently the Colts offered just 2 x 2nd rounders for Wentz and that's the best offer they've had (according to Ron Jaworski)

Wentz looked like the next big thing until his injuries ... now looks a shadow but I'd like to see him have a clear run at it before drawing a line

It's different to what we usually hear from the usual 'get on with the job' Wilson we usually hear. Got that bumper deal just 12 months ago but the guy obviously wants to win.

I also think Pete Carroll has gone a bit stale in his play calling in recent years, doesn't vary it up much. Does he trust Russell enough? Speculating of course.

There is also rumours of a Wentz ertz and first rounder package. The Eagles oline was putrid. No one was kept clean. He has the skills but wether that knee has really hurt him. He doesn’t move as freely.

On Wilson, he wants a new oline, he blatantly said he is sick of being hit. And wanted to have a say in who they sign and draft.

I hope he leaves. I’d happily not have him in the NFC West. Although we did sack him about 16 times this year.

There will always be a special sort of hatred for the niners.

I hated the Rams growing up. They were easily our bitterist rivals. But then the greatest show on turf and that Superbowl run a few years ago, you wanted to hate them and did but they just looked so darn good doing it. It would have been like hating Barcelona in their prime.

The Seahawks on the other hand is such a manufactured hatred, although the Harbaugh vs Carroll thing a few years back brought some feeling to it. Other than that it's just meh and they always beat us anyway.

For me growing up and losing to Montana and Moss was painful and when he retired you though ok, might be ok enter steve Young... sigh.

GSoT was great until we stuff up the SB and gave Brady his first win.

And I hate the Seahawks. Pete Carroll annoys me, I hated Sherman (still do) but appreciate Ailson and beast mode.
oh and hate their fans.

Pete Carroll annoys me too, I can't figure out why other than because it's Seattle. I like the Trojans. I think he's a good coach but I also kind of feel like he lucked out with Wilson. 2 failed head coaching stints and 2 x 7-9 Seattle seasons before RW got there.

I did like Kam Chancellor though back when you could hit.

I think Pete has a punchable face and the big open mouth chewing annoys me.

His fault they don’t have 2 SB rings. If he calls a Lynch run they score and they win.

At least we can agree he's a jerk!

Wentz to colts. Eagles have $34m dead cap from it this year. Eclipsing the Rams $22m for Goff.

  • 2 weeks later...

JJ Watt to cards, Russ Wilson, the most sacked QB in the last 9 years now cops Watt, Bosa and AD99 2 times each.

He wanted out prior, can’t see it being less of a desire now ?

  • 2 weeks later...

Floyd re-signs with the Rams!!! Makes me happy.

Pats have splashed around $200mil in 7 hours.

Crazy day so far.

  • 2 months later...

Tim.Tebow is back in the NFL!

Signed a 1 year deal with the Jags as a tight end.  I hope he does alright

33 years old now but he'd be fit & healthy you'd imagine

I can’t see this working very well, but he is costing them sod all. And the jags will be poor so nothing lost if it doesn’t work.

Where will Julio Jones land?

Pats seem to be offering for him. It will be weird seeing him in anything but a Flacons top.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
