Given that is an award for the regular season only it would have been interesting to see how Wentz would have fared if he missed the first 3 games of the year and then played the rest of the season unimpaired (the reverse of what actually happened)

And probably what will happen next year.

And yeah, good point.

Wentz hardly had an off day in the 13 games that he played ... he was probably very good to outstanding in 10 - 11 games.

Those numbers would probably measure up quite well against Brady & Gurley but Wentz got injured at the wrong time for an award such as this.  What happens at the end of the regular season stands out more ... that's why I reckon Gurley can win the award.

We'd probably have any number of Brownlow comparisons through the years where similar scenarios have happened.

Also there's the same factor that made me say Zeke should have won rookie of the year last year. What more can a rookie RB do to win... I know QBs have it harder etc... But still. If he couldn't win it with that, you can NEVER win it. Bit like Gurley this year. His numbers are just crazy, and almost never had an off day. What more can an RB do?

Speaking of rookie of the year... who do we have? Has to be Hunt I guess?

Here's a good article that covers all sorts of categories

Bill Barnwell makes a good case for Kamara but it's line ball between him and Hunt.

Barnwell's 2017 NFL awards: Picks for MVP, best rookies, more

Quote

Without considering the order in which those yards were gained, a look at the yardage gained from scrimmage by both players is telling. Hunt was a workhorse for the Chiefs, racking up 1,786 all-purpose yards and 11 touchdowns across 326 touches. Kamara, meanwhile, was nearly as productive in a smaller role. He had only 201 touches on offense for the Saints, but they resulted in 1,554 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Gurleys numbers are even better when you see how many games he didnt finish. He was benched in the fourth multiple times or much reduced snaps as the games were won.

Be interesting to try and pick the two players for each team that are the ones they couldnt not afford to lose. Rams would be  Donald and Gurley.

By the same token players do get used more in certain game scripts. How many times were Rams miles ahead, blowing teams out, and then they lean on the run to make longer drives? But yeah... I wouldn't complain if Gurley got the nod. Be a nice break from all the QBs, certainly.

Good game.

NFC East...

Giants: OBJ and Collins I'd say. Eli probably third.

Redskins: Cousins, and maybe Norman?

Cowboys: Obviously Dak and Zeke. Lee a very close third. Bryant has dropped off for now... their O line should feel hard done by too.

Eagles: Wentz and Cox. Interesting that your QB ISN'T one of your two. That's a pretty good position to be in.

Yeah some are obvious, others not so.

Dallas Id go Zeke and Lee. Their record with and without Lee is amazing.

And the commentators tell us about it every time Dallas play.

Yeah, it is insane that one defender makes that much of a difference.

Tips

Chiefs 28 Titans 14

Rams 27 Falcons 24

Jags 22 Bills 10

Panthers 17 Saints 30

Thinking about the Rams game and how we can win it.

I was not wanting the Falcon# as I think they are our worst match up, very good WR, a good running back and good Run D. On top of that a QB who can match it with the best normally.

For us to win, we need to get Gurley running good amounts early, this is key. We need to make this a shoot out and our FG attempts worry me big time.

Must pressure Ryan early and hard. If he has time to pick out Jones and Sanu then that means we play a 6-7 D line which Freeman will cruse on through. Big pressure on Ryan means quick throws which hopefully gives our secondary a chance and less likely of big throws down field.

Must contain Freeman in the line. Can’t let them run the ball outside of Donald and Brockers.

I think we have a good chance to win, but of all the away teams I think the Falcons have the best chance on the road.

How did the booth not review that drop by Kelce when he got hit?

ball looked out before he hit the ground.

Very good summary Gorg... Obviously our biggest challenge will be to keep Gurley in check & force the game onto Goffs shoulders. Our defense has been playing reasonably well lately but stopping Gurley is a whole different beast. The run game could be where it's won or lost, if we can establish the run which the Rams have struggled against & take away Gurley we win. Easier said then done. Goodluck ;)

This cheifs/titans game has come alive

Lucky for Tennessee he was down...

Kansas City Chokers losing at home in a play off again. Wow.

What worries me is if they try and get cute and play through other players as the Falcons will be focussing on Gurley and not getting the job done.

We need to use Gurley and Austin in some jet sweeps early I think.

Victory formation for the Titans ... they'll go to the Pats next week unless the Bills win.  KC imploded again.

Smith goes now. Question for me is what sort of pressure now goes onto Andy Reid. They go on these great runs, then slumps way too often.

Why the hell did we not run it at 2&2 or 3&2?

This is what I was worried about, trying to be too cute.

GIVE THE BALL TO GURLEY!!!

Big moment there ... the ball was like a piece of soap.

Falcons need to take advantage here

Can’t plan for it hitting the foot like that. Thought Peterson had recovered then realised it had squirmed out again... sigh

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
