Just flicking through channels while I watch the Arsenal vs Sunderland game and came across this footy flashback on 7two.

Pretty entertaining game, pretty scrappy first half followed up by a fantastic 3rd quarter. Having been born in 1987 I never really had the chance to see some of the players my dad always talked about. Some nice moustaches back then.

I Remember the game out at Arctic Park. And if I do remember the game correctly, Alan Johnson playing in the back pocket, drifted up the ground to kick the winning goal late in the last term.

Wet Toast were still new to the competition at that time but you could see they had some very special players in the team and it wasn't long before they became a force. They beat us in the finals at the same venue a couple of years later.

Golden Era - Looking forward to revisiting those feelings again in the next couple of years.

I reckon Garry Lyon snapped the winner in that game & from memory we almost still lost.

Wet Toast player ran into an open goal on the siren & missed a sitter.

Get some vision of the 1988 Preliminary Final @ Artic park, when we smacked Carlton.

So excited after that win couldn't find my car for an hour in the rain.

What a day!

We were unlucky not to be at the MCG where we'd have smashed 'em!

Lyon kicked the winning goal after a handpass from my hero, "Dirty Dave" Williams.

But WCE were unlucky not to get a free to Glendinning in range near the end, and should have kicked the winning goal soon after (I remember not looking , being so sure they wouldn't miss....what was his name again?!!)

If only they'd played Dirty Dave instead of Eishold against Hawthorn the year before!!!!!

We beat the reigning premiers, Carlton, three times in '87. (so that included a cut-throat final.) We'd have beaten Carlton in the 87 GF.

What a day!

Was there at 13yo. Thank god Murray Wrensted missed his shot with seconds remaining. The next two finals against Collingwood and Carlton were great memories too. The following week (GF) we can only try and erase.
