The Tom Lynch Thread

As much as I want Lynch, I get the feeling we'll end up with Smedts or Smith and be hoping like hell we get Luke Mitchell at our 2nd pick.

Our second pick, while still valuable looks likely to slip back further as a lot of teams are considering using their compensation picks in this draft.

Although they will come later than in an uncompromised draft, such is the strength and depth of this draft, that they see it as the best option to use it now.

Absolute Gun - with his height and agillity will be headed for the GC IMHO.

JCB31, who could we get with pick 18?

Fitzgerald but we do not have a pick then- we have pick 12 - and we will pick up a very good player- may even be a smokie.

I think that was written in the context of the trading period, where it was suggested that north wanted to switch 1st Rnd picks with us.

I hope we do get Fitzgerald later, @ 49 or so.

According to a profile in the Age Lynch came stone motherless last in the 20m sprint but has good endurance. Strangely enough, some so-called experts are still comparing him with Jack Watts who excelled in the sprints.

I'm actually beginning to think he'll end up a bit like a much taller Bate.

Runs and runs and runs and is quite fast once he builds up some steam, but not especially quick off the mark.

He does seem to recover quite well though.

Still a very good prospect.

Bate and agile?

I'm struggling here ...

I think he is a bit more agile than Bate, he's just not that quick off the mark and needs to build up some pace.

I know, it seems like an oxymoron.

His 20m sprint time is a real X against him.

I bet a lot of recruiters were really disappointed with him coming dead last.

These days the first 20m are critical for a forward, in order to get distance between you and the defender on the lead and also in order to chase the ball once it hits the ground.

Have warmed a lot to Lynch in recent weeks, at this stage he's among a list of probably 5 guys I'd be extremely happy to see taken with pick 12.

Err, I think your a season too late, 'TE'. ^_^

Mate, you were too :)

GC will pick him at 9-11. No doubting it.

true, no way he will be still there at pick 12.

Quayle seems to think there may be a few out of the box early on, with Lynch a chance to fall to our pick.

Atley most likely to Essendon at 8, with GC to likely select Caddy at 7 or else bombers will pounce.

We may get the KPF at 12 that we want after all.

She's also saying there's whispers of Conca at 6 to the tiges..?

Incredible if they do.

Solid player, but a bit vanilla for me.

I just don't know about Lynch, does anyone get 'Ben McEvoy' vibes with the footage they have seen?

No, sorry, my comment back then had nothing to do with Lynch at all...

But simply at that time we were all talking about a possible switch from Pick 12 to pick 18 with North. So I asked JCB what he thought may be around at Pick 18 (Norths) this year.

Probably off the Lynch topic a little.

Not necessarily.

I'm happy to go for a mid, but if a great tall prospect slides to 12 that should by all rights be taken earlier, wouldn't that seem a perfect outcome?

I will honestly be happy no matter who we choose, even if it's Watson.

No, I was thinking more like Kosi but better below his knees.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
