Sunday games every damn week

Does anyone know if we specifically request Sunday games from the AFL? From round 12 (Queens Birthday Monday), through to Round 22 we only have one non-Sunday game which is a Saturday night round 18 clash at the Gabba. Could this be a hangover from the Gutnick era when he did specifically request sunday games?

I really miss having a day out at the footy and being able to have a few beers without having to worry about working the next day. Just seems strange that we do not get to see the mighty Demons on any other day than Sunday in Melbourne again this season.

Anyway, not a huge complaint because we did get a favourable fixture at the start of the year. Just my little whinge..

If the number of Sunday games was more evenly spread across the year I don't think it would be an issue but to have them all grouped together is a bit annoying

Starting from next year, a rise up the ladder will mean: better timeslots, better TV exposure, better media coverage, and bigger crowds as a result.

The reason we have so many Sunday games is because I like to hit the [censored] on Saturday night. The club wants me to be there, so they moved most games to Sunday to accommodate my binge drinking.

On a serious note, it would be nice to have some Friday night games in there somewhere.

Apparently they give the crap timeslots to teams who don't draw crowds. Given that we just pulled almost 50,000 to a Sunday afternoon game, I think we should see a slightly better deal next year. You never know, perhaps they'll take one of Essendon's 4 Friday Home Games from this year and give them to us. That'd be nice.

However, we have only one Friday night fixture for the year. There are 44 spots fr Friday night games in a season. If the draw were even that would equate to most teams having three Friday nights and 4 only having two. I'd love to see that!

I believe that big Jimma and Co, and hats off to them, have fostered a respectful and positive relationship with the AFL that will bring increasing benefits as time passes. A home game against Essendon at the G was a nice earner for us, I'm sure there are more fixtural gems in there aside from the obvious ones. Little by little our great club will shift itself into a better and better position, it can't happen all at once though but it is definately happening

However, we finished 16th last year, so we don't have a lot of power when we ask the AFL for fixturing requests.

The AFL has to schedule Sunday games to someone. Next year hopefully the AFL will acknowledge our better form this year and reflect it in more Friday night games and less Sunday games.

As with my earlier post regarding Friday games, they should just divide them evenly amongst the teams so as to avoid the appearance of favouritism. It is easy enough to work out how many games each side should be allocated on a particular day. I'm sure th ebrain surgeons at the AFL can manage it.

But that wouldn't be maximising crowds, would it? Which in turn would be reducing revenue.

The AFL is still a business, and it gets money from attendances as well as broadcast rights. Seven and Ten want their matches to be between big clubs, not small ones. That's why there's so much of Essendon, Carlton, Collingwood, Geelong, St Kilda and Hawthorn on Friday nights, Saturday 2.10 and Saturday night matches.

Once we're playing better football, pushing for finals and generally becoming more of a powerhouse the AFL will schedule us in better games (I've heard a rumour that early next year there will be a Collingwood-Melbourne Friday night game, for example, as a reward for the two close games we had this year).
