Great news hopefully now we can build some semblance of a forward line

2011 and onwards???

Bennell Watts Sylvia

Bate Petterd Jurrah

With Green, Fitzpatrick, Tapscott, Jetta just to name a few sliding through.....

From now on, only the World Cup octopus is allowed to make these sorts of calls.

Ha. Hillarious post. (Except if you are German!)

I see potentially probably only 3 bona fide stars on our list and 'Coldawg' isn't one of them.

Still very, very, VERY important. Those 3 potential stars will be wasted if they don't have the side around them. eg, Rooke may be no superstar, but I wonder what would have happened to the Cats if he wasn't there?

Oh. And while we're at it, who are your three? Trengove, Frawley and Scully? Maybe Watts for Scully?

I'm not sure that the bolded needed stating.

Answer: Trengove, Scully and Watts.

If Knights isn't there are a he'll of lot of Bombers out there deputising for him right now lol Keep in mind atpresent for evry 2 he kicks he is instrumental in 3 or 4 others. I'll say right now he'll kick 3 will hand two to Watts and two to Bates and that's 7 goals that wouldn't have happened without LJ

Thank you for illustrating my point.

Liam averaged 2.2 goals and 0.7 goals assists from his 9 games at the end of last year. His absence has made our hearts grow so fond that he is now a 3 goal, 4 goal assist player.

If this is how good Jurrah becomes with half of season of anticipation I shudder to think what they're predicting from Riewoldt at the Saints forum. They've probably got him slotting 10 and handing off another 20.

So what youre doing is looking at his early form and not current. Dont get too carried away , in either direction by official stats. He has been decidedly instrumental in many assists this year, granted at VFL level but if thats whre he's been playing then thats what I have to go by. The nature of his game wont have changed much for being in the magoos. He is a rahter unselfish player who looks to the teams advantage not his own.

Im not describing his impact in any unrealistic manner. Also a big diference will be now he will be absolutely encouraged to do his most damage by allowing him to play in a productive manner and position unlike being dragged or pushed away from goals in case he scored too many. He is now let of the leash. Watts , Bennell and Jetts will lift for is presence and creativity. I fuly expect Bates especially to be the recipient of a couple of passed slammed on his chest.

If Knights isnt concerned than he's a fool. Esendons back line is struggling and he ( K) doesnt need a bit of unknown wow factor coming into play.

But even if I tone down my expectations to say 2 to LJ with 3 assists thats stilll a difference of 5 for him being there. The introduction of Jurrah forces Knights hand ( and its not that full of trumps if any anyway ). The dynamics of who is now played on what or Watt(s) lol , must change. Bring in Sylvia must also up the ante as Col is a bone fide 5 bagger on his day.

But for mine its Jurrah's ability to create something out of absolutely nothing,to be able to slot a ball where there is no rational path is the real headache for Knights. Essendon supporters know it. This is a game as much about where your head's at as much as anything and the Bummers might just get spooked a bit having the Wizard against them !!

I think you mean he had 2 or 3 assists in that one game last week.

He's played 2 games this year in the VFL, he scarcely touched the ball in the first and had a couple of assists and a few goals in his one good game last week.

You're being extremely unrealistic about his impact. Liam is a very exciting prospect who has a lot of X-Factor, but to suggest that in his first game back he is going to just be roaming free around the ground creating havoc and turning the game on its ear is wildly unrealistic.

happy to disagree. lets watch and see :)

Look, I hope we're both wrong and he kicks 6 and hands off 8. I'm just making comment on how whenever players are out of the team for a while they slowly morph into god-like game turners that will make everything better as soon as they return. I'll bet it is happening on the Saints boards, they'll have Roo pencilled in for 8 goals over there for sure.

The far more likely scenario is that both Liam & Nick will have excellent passages of play but will take a couple of weeks to re-adjust to the speed of the game.

It's now happening with Ricky who, indeed, started playing some nice football before his injury, but people are carrying on as if he's some kind of goalkicking machine who will come back next year on his new deal and tear the comp apart. In reality, if he hadn't been injured, it's pretty likely he would've had a couple of very quiet games in the wasteland of our forward line and there'd be occasional calls to send him back to Casey for a rest and to regain touch. Instead, his stock is rising and rising because he hasn't put in any 'bad' games.

It's a good post - Chris Johnson became a good player in my mind every off-season.

Wholeheartedly agree.

Your assessment of Liam and Nick is spot on. While every would like and be e4xcited about Jurrah turning it on the reality is that he is still returning after missing alot of footy.

ID, your point is beautifully illustrated by the threads in the preseason loudly wondering what was wrong with Jurrah when he didn't dominate opposition teams in the NAB games.

Over the offseason his ability had increased in a lot of supporter's imaginations to the extent that a goal or 2 was no longer enough.

I disagree. Having watched him in the intra-club and in the lead-up games I'd wondered if he'd run over a Chinaman. He'd never looked worse. It had nothing to do with inflated expectations. I agree with ID's assertions, but your use of Jurrah (preseason) is a poor example.
