Our run home...

Ok, not thinking finals, but just wondering what we should expect for the rest of the year given how we've gone so far...

1 condition though, only Yes or No answers, no fence sitting!!

St.Kilda(Etihad)- No

Essendon(MCG)- No

Fremantle(Subiaco)- No

Sydney(MCG)- Yes

Brisbane(Gabba)- No

Richmond(MCG)- Yes

Hawthorn(MCG)- No

Port Adelaide(AAMI)- No

North Melbourne(MCG)- No

6 1/2 wins... I'd be very unimpressed and would doubt we have ACTUALLY improved, if it goes this way.

I hope we win more than that, but I REALLY hope we start showing a desire to win.

Start showing a desire to win? Are you joking? Are Melbourne supporters the most reactive in the league?

I suppose the boys showed a desire to draw on QB, good thing they got their way....

Reactive? If we had been hard at the ball and passionate all year but lacked it today I would agree, but we have shown genuine determination for only a couple of full games and a few quarters here and there.

I don't doubt they WANT to win, but there's a difference between wanting something and actually going after it.

So, no, I'm not joking smartass.

add an extra 2 wins and 8.5 wins looks okay. Still don't know how we lost toe the dogs and we should have beaten the Pies.

Yeah, I would hope we can get up for another couple of those at least, but I guess I'm being conservative to save myself some heartache.

Go through all of matches and point out the two full matches and the few quarters where we have shown genuine determination.

Also, please illustrate all of the matches, and other quarters here and there, where we did not have a genuine determination to win.

Why would I need to do that? I go to nearly every game, and watch the interstate ones... If you haven't been watching that's your problem.

OR... y}You could actually get on with what this thread is about.. Just a suggestion

Expect is a tricky word to use because of the remaining games I only 'expect' to beat Richmond.

Given our up and down season I believe we will pull off an upset or two on the run home.

Ess, Syd and North at home are 50/50 and all very winable... but these are the types of games we have performed the worst in all year.

If we were playing Freo, Port and Bris at the MCG I would put them into the 50/50 category... but playing them away turns all 3 into heavy losses.

At this stage I would be happy with 3 wins... which would give us 7.5 and about where I predicted at the start of the year.

Not taking sides in this argument (more out of boredom waiting for the soccer) but I think we showed determination for a full 4 quarters against

the Pies(round 2), Lions and the Doggies...Pies last 3 qtrs, North 3rd qtr, Crows for 2 qtrs(round3), Carlton 3rd qtr & Port 3.5 qtrs.

The rest of the time we have been pretty insipid and lucky to not get blown away.

At the start of the year Bailey mentioned this whole 50% improvement thing. 4 wins in 2009 + 50% = 6 in 2010... Then + 50% is 9 in 2011... Then plus 50% is 13 maybe 14 in 2012.

I had reassessed after the Brisbane game and imagined maybe 8-10, but perhaps he was right?

And I don't "expect" to win any of our remaining games. The Tiges and Roos games, cos they're at the G I have serious expectations. But the way both side are travelling I think we're certainly not montys.

If we play like we did against Adelaide (a performance similar to the West Coast and Hawthorn performances) we will struggle to win another game.

If we play like we did against Collingwood/Bulldogs/Port Adelaide we'll beat Richmond, Sydney and North Melbourne and will push Essendon and Port Adelaide.

i.e. we're inconsistent.

Pretty right. Tigers. North. An upset or two.

Bailey may well be proven to be spot on by years end- amazing really that the coaches predictions of his teams fortunes/performance actually turn out to be right :)

Hit the nail on the head. That's why it will likely be no more than 3.

Funny ...if you were asking this after the Pies game wed all feel confident on 8 or so wins by seasons end...now after this week nothing is at all certain. There's no consistency other than pathetic starts to games to hang a hat or anything on. Definitely something annoyingly wrong with Melbourne. Theres a few who ought to be dropped but never will be..much to chagrin.

Extraordinary.

What interests me is the question of whether or not his predicted 9 wins in 2011 will be enough to keep him his job. Sounds a bit neck and neck at this stage.

You're being optimistic with Sydney & Richmond are playing better than us.

Yeah at the moment, but I'm going by our form over the year not just yesterday... fingers crossed

follow it through then.. If he can somehow predict and sustain 6 in 010 9 in 011 then 13/14 in 012 ought to follow... and with that improvement hed be stiff to now keep the gig surely ?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
