Steven Clark - Was sensational for half a season late 80's b4 wrecking his knee (sadly now deceased)

Ken Roberts

Mark Jackson - If only he didnt want to be a movie star

We had an aboriginal kid in the 70's that promised the world - Colin somebody or that may have been

Scott Chisholm was headless chook with the ball. Prone to moments of sheer insanity.

Russell (the rhino) Richards, also like a headless chook but with its head still intact.

Talking about headless Chooks has reminded me of this one

Moose Henwood arrived @ the Dee's from the swans for a short unmemorable stint

Henry Coles is a ripper. No. 13 wasn't he?

Andy Moir always gets me upset. Ruined my childhood.

Adrian Battsiston played a few years but got shifted to Sydney.

Melbourne U19s in the mid-80's under Jordan were formidable.

Not many went on:

Roger Ellingworth?

?? O'Brien?

Batto - see above

Graem Yeats - turned out okay

Brett Bailey - wonder where he is now.

Chris Connolly - Purple, White & Green

Chris O'Sullivan??

Would love to see the old-timers reflect on the U19s of the mid-80s. The seniors wren't much chop so am guessing a few of you went and watched.

Interesting that the U19s of the early-mid-80's graduated to the 87-onwards finals births but can't recall that many of them being there.

Hayden Robbins and Luke Norman.....two players I sponsored! I'm with "Flash" now!!

Haydn Robins is an absolute gun footballer....at Beaconsfield. Kicked a ton quite a few times, won a few flags, retired a couple of years ago, made a successful comeback then retired again. He is now coaching Beaconsfield and yes has pulled on the boots yet again and is still going well.

Also at local rivals Berwick, George Gorozidis is playing and I believe he was once on the Melbourne list? or maybe it was only the supplementary list?

It was Michael O'sullivan and he was a very talented but fragile player, one season ending injury after another. Paul O'Brien, particularly pacey, brother of a Stawell gift winner, Dallas , who did his knee jumping up and down in dismay after Kevin Bartlett was paid a free kick against him.

I also recall a Darren o'Brien playing for the Dees in the mid 90s. They picked him up as a mature age recruit from WA.

I recall Luke Norman taking a big hanger in the goal square in one of his early games only to go back and kick it stright into the post. Apparently he was a black belt in tae kwon do or something. Is there such thing as an early game when you only play 10?

Andrew Lamprill was another that promise plenty and delivered naught. He too took some big marks in the red and blue.

Didn't Beams recently score about 400 runs in a cricket game down in Tassie? IIRC he played football on the Saturday and then went out and smashed it on Sunday at the cricket....

Paul Prymke....suffered back injury and didn't play again?

What about Luke Ottens?

i remember Prymke, actually I reckon he was a pretty good player before he had that back problem. What did the Dees do to deserve all those great players in the 90's having horrible runs with injury. Lyon, Schwarz, Charles, Tingay, G Lovett, Prymke, Jakovich. Man we were stiff.

Also what was it with Melnourne picking up all those dud brothers? Both Cockatoo boys were dissappointing, not that Che was a superstar but he left them for dead.

Damien Gaspar, possibly the worst AFL footballer every to pull on a jumper, makes Nicho look like full back of the century by comparison.

Luke Ottens, come on!

Allen Jakovich, not saying he was a dud because he was sensational when on the park but man we really could have used the 300 games Glen put on for the Eagles.

Theres probably a few others that I can't think of ATM.

I think we definitely had the wrong Longmuir a few years ago and Jamie Barham was no Ricky

David Grant, he actually had a pretty decent career at StKilda i think. Wouldn't have played many games for MFC. Must have been about 30 when we picked him up.

There has been quite a few player transfers between st kilda and mfc over the years. Stephen Newport & Stephen Powell come to mind immediately and of course Luke (the drink) Beveridge

Darren Kowal - Massive Massive dissapointment for the Melbourne Footy Club

Back to Henry Coles - rumour has it he wasn't paying attention to the coach at half time in a seconds game in the late 70's. Big Carl was coaching the 1st & down in the rooms & had a go @ him.

The two went behind closed doors for a chat & all everybody could hear was fists flying & connecting & Carl screaming you can have an open clearance to anywhere you like.

He was never seen at the Melbourne Football Club again.

I think I read this tale in Robbie Flowers Autobiography.

Robbie said he had never been more terrified in his life. Instant repect for Carl but apparently little

fiery Henry Coles landed the most punches. Carlwalked out brushed his suiut down & it was business as usual.

moo kowal. for mine, still the worst player to play 100 games in the red and blue. had pace...shame he couldn't kick, mark, or handball.

sean charles and brent heaver both debuted by kicking 5 against carlton...who recruited both of em after they'd given us service.

paul prymke was shaping up as one of the best fb's of his generation, only to be cruelled by a bad back.

we picked up a lot of duds from sa - sampson, ormond-allen, nick pesch, et al. balme had a soft spot for his fellow croweaters.

What about the Great Kelvin Templeton.

Footscray great and Melbourne.......well......I can't remember if he actually played for us.

Goal in Round 1 of 92 - on debut even? - left foot snap from the boundary line at the Punt Rd end Olympic Stand side that went a million metres into the air and somehow went through. Classic.

The great Kelvin Templeton sadly was spent by the time we got him but I can remember a rare victory @ kardinia park about 1984 when he bagged 8 goals in the Red & Blue
