Which tall defender should play forward?

Featured Replies

None, they are all natural defenders and should remain. but if had to choose, Garland

Archer was a natural defender and was more then handy when he went forward. And of course lets not forget the former All Australian Centre Half Back David Neitz, if memory serves me correct moving him forward worked out ok.

Neitz was always going to be a forward, the best we have had. But of our current defenders who will take a pack mark and bang a goal from outside fifty on a angle?

Touche

We have an excess of capable tall defenders, some of whom also seem likely to make for good options up forward.

We have a shortage of tall forwards - at least in the short-medium term this year.

But here is my key point: a good defender moving forward as an option does not have to become the key target to replace Ricky P. The 3rd Q on Satuday proved that. DB made a move by keeping Green & Sylvia in the forward 50, and we got instant results. Cleared up the middle in a small ground, gave us more than 1 option forward, and broke up the kangas' stranglehold through the middle by clearing out the area. Can't explain the 4th Q though!

At least DB made a move mid game - unlike Daniher who was almost always out-coached all game.

I like the option of Rivers or especially Garland as a 2nd or 3rd key forward option. With Chip, Warnock, JMac and the other of Rivers/Garland down back, we can cover Ricky's absence and not be lacking tall defenders. But it's not just players that will do it. It's also coaching tactics to suit the ground and the opposition, as we saw after half time on Saturday.

Garland, he was recuited as a forward. But i think the in this week will be Bail, he gives us loads of run and can take a mark as well.

1 highlight in how many years and how does this make him a forward. He is not up to it. A surplus of defenders does not make them a forward. Leave Warnock, Frawley and Garland alone. Rivers to Casey.

In an absolute nutshell.

What Garland was in his junior days is irrelevant to what he is now.

Saw Garland kick 4 goals against Geelong in their prime once.

Garland has played 24 games and kicked 2 goals in his career to date. So that game against Geelong must have been memorable.

Where were you sitting on the day?

NAB cup '08. Kicked a nice one from outside 50 as well, I recall.

My god, so many posts have been deleted it's not funny.
