I love Morton, but I worry that Fremantle will offer him some money down the track. I hope he stays. He's a gun. Surely he must see the premiership potential at MFC? We'll give a flag a real shot in a couple of years time. We've built a team already that has greater potential to anything that I've seen in my lifetime. We'll win premiership before Freo even make a Grand Final.

Not sure why we are all concerned about this "salary cap issue we will have in the next 2 years. Until this team get us to a level where we are a serious premiership contender (ie like the teams this year of Geelong, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, etc), we can't just go paying them top dollar based on potential and possibility.

Look at Geelong over this time, they have lost no top line players in their dominant past 3 years, sure they are having some salary cap issues (ie had to let Mumford go), but they still have a majority of their premiership players running around today.

In 3 years time we may be having a crack for a flag. I can't see any of these boys wanting to go anywhere else, unless they are offering $$$ like the GC17/Ablett scenario. At this stage, none of our players are as good as G Ablett jnr.

Money.

John Northey got us into 5 Final series running...count them.

So give the man some credit even if you are still upset that it wasn't RDB.

Anyway, my point is Not about Johhny Northey or his side kick, they did a fair job. But ratheryou seem to keep promoting that team, with out ANY acknowledgement of all the strategy & hard work that Barass & his team did inconstructing that side from scratch with nothing but Flower & one handfull of rawly talented players & a Clubfull of losing mentality.

He & his team worked worked without the draft helping to rebuild our list, even going offshore, to IRELAND, to try to pick some advantage with Celtic talent.

Its not that you constantly promote Northey,,, but rather the Loud ommission of the Real Hard Work that was done was done by Barass, Jordan, B Richardson, Dick Seddon, Cam Schwab, et al. Not to mention all the time & effort of the off field staff & volunteers who went to work for years without winning a game, as they built the Club back up again.

The Incumbent management inherited a great product ready to roll.

Just add some confidence to the list & away they went.

That said when Barrass came back in the '80s the place was in a mess, & i am sure he and slug did a lot of Hard work but we got No results on field with the seniors.

So i give RDB some credit along with slug, But most i give to John Northey.

RDB is a great bloke-don't get me wrong, but he was the first to bring in these Dammed "5 year plans" & it didn't work sadly, don't Forget at Carlton & North he had ready made (just add water sides) so it is hard to know how good RDB is as a Grass Roots Coach. He had all the pieces of his chess board. At melbourne he didn't.

I have had a few Beers with Barrass when he had that pub in Richmond-Told him i Hated those North Flags too.

I Hope Barrass Presents the Cup to the next Melbourne Capt. like Bob Davis did too Geelong last year

He's not a teaching coach, in that he's not a coach to develop the kids like Bailey's doing.

But thats the job that was offered him. That was Jordans caper.

A fresh change was all that was needed for that group to let their skills out & flourish.

Their passion was their for all to see.

I thought it was interesting that, way back in 2008, the three players I remember seeing at the Demon Summit were McDonald, Rivers and Morton. There were a couple of others but they were mixed into other groups.

Morton, who was all of 18, it would be fair to say he wasn't used to the idea that he could just walk up to anyone there and they'd be delighted to chat with him. Still had a little shyness to him. Very endearing.

Well, its time to let that anger go,,,, WYL.. He's one of our legends,,,and he taught these boys who Now have the controls.

Point Taken-But Northey was the right man to get the best out of those boys (after a shaky start-dont forget we were 6-9 before we got Fired up in '87.) Some of John's warm up speeches were amazing i have heard via G. Lyon, which is why we often put in Huge First halves & then Hung on for a close victory.

They were never the greatest side but Northey got them to often over achieve.

He inherited the prodginy of Barass' & Jordan + added a few like Doug Koops from Nth Melb.

He did a good job with other peoples efforts.

Jamie Dursma was another Beauty who resurrected a career in that 88 year, a complete no name who played in the Grand Final side.

Good Bloke i met jamie after he retired-he loved his time with Northey & the Demons.
