most likely at the expense of Lynden Dunn

There is a god.

Dunn has been handy, but hardly a world beater. He doesn't kick enough goals as a forward and regularly gives away an undisciplined free kick at the most infuriating time. He's in his 5th year and is still to cement a position. If you can't drop Dunn to promote/develop a player of Watts class who can you drop.

Dunn is the logical choice to make way.

Dunn out

Watts in

I'm happy with that Dunn has tried his best, although unlucky if someone needs too make way for big Jack he is the obvious choice IMO, we need two ruckman against the eagles so PJ should play, but he should also be on notice play and play well or else!

Absolutely.

I think he's been a better player for the first few games, the last couple of weeks, not so much. Bad habits die hard.

15 pages this thread is now up to!! 3 1/2 hours it will soon finish and we will all know...hopefully be excited by Watts inclusion!!

So the consensus seems to be that Dunn out for Watts as PJ stays due to the twin ruck threat of the toasters....anyone think that Spencer may be a chance to come in for PJ if this is the case?

Very raw still big Jake but was dominant last week at Casey, not sure that PJ has done anything at all to warrant a continued spot especially as others step it up and would deserve their chance!

I just hope he doesnt cop too much of a pasting from the media post game. Afterall its going to be hard for him to have a huge impact, its almost like he is debuting again in my eyes.

I really like the way you've set a negative tone before he has even been named for a game.

Well done.

Dunns leading the marks at Melbourne this year, very unlucky if he has to make way, poor kicking at goal last week would have killed him.

But thats what happens when a club has depth in its list, you dont perform theres a bloke at Casey ready to pounce, and this week that bloke happens to be JW.

I think because it IS Jack, supporters are more hesitant to drop a player.

It stems from paranoia that he will have a poor game and we would have been better off with Dunn.

We are entering/have entered the stage where players have to perform better than "good enough" to keep their spot.

This is a great thing.

No doubt the opposition players will target him (If he plays). It will be interesting to see how he handles it, and how the rest of the team stands up for him. Would be nice if Neita was out there still, just to show Jack how it's done. Miss the big fella.

Jake's attack at the ball and his rucking was great on the weekend. But every time he goes to kick the ball my heart goes to my mouth.

I'm not a big fan of PJ, but I think because he was called into the side last week he deserves this week to prove himself in better conditions. Against what many consider to be the best ruck combo in the league, he needs to step up and prove himself, or start looking for another job. My worry is if the big Russian goes down injured and Jack is playing, he will have to do some of the ruck work, even if only in the forward line, and I don't think it is good for his development at this time. Dunn has been serviceable, but really has done nothing to ensure his position is safe.

So for me

Out: Dunn

In: Watts (only if he is ready)

Alternatively, and I don't think I will get much support for this, (maybe even less than my Bennell pulled out of another contest thread)

Out: PJ, Dunn

In: Watts, Miller

Miller will have the best defender and be able to help out in the ruck. I think he does more around the ground and up forward than PJ or Dunn, and he can help protect Watts if they try and shake him up.

This year is about development. I don't think PJ, Dunn or Miller will be at the club in a couple of years, so maybe if the choice is who will be the best player to have in the team to help develop Watts, Miller could be considered.

PLEASEEEE!!!!

Release the teams now so we can end all this tripe!!! I can't believe this thread is now up to 15 pages. Unf*'nbelievable.

Started with with he was good or no good. Whether Nic Nat was better or not. Whether there was more to him not getting a game. Then his form at Casey was said to be sh'it. Then it got good. Now everyone is specualting whether he deserves a game or not. The full 360 is complete. I hope he doesn't play. This board will go into melt down if he plays!

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
