The Game Plan

Featured Replies

Similar story for much of today in my view.

We did move the ball much quicker though and took a lot more risks - sometimes we came unstuck but often it looked very attractive.

Both pleasing and disappointing to hear. Pleasing that we looked better and faster, disappointing that we still had numbers pushing behind the ball.

Well you`d have to say they must be playing to instructions I guess! I still can`t see for the life of me how this will work for us. I can remember plenty of occasions last year where we were looking impressive bringing the ball thru the half backline , up to the wings and then having nowhere to go! How will pushing numbers behind the ball win us games of footy?

you have to wonder if in fact it is a deliberate ploy to have numbers behind the ball when in possession. The other is when we do get possession are our players working as hard off the ball to provide options, as they are chasing their opponents when the other team has the ball ? another question addressing the game plan -particularly in relation to the midfield (which is critical!!) , are moloney and jones comfortable selections for the foreseeable future ?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
