NAB Rising Star 2010

On exposed form Jack Trengove would appear to be leading the way in terms of young dees in contention for the NAB Rising Star Award.

Although none have even been nominated yet, Trengove, Scully, Blease, Strauss, Watts, Tapscott, Gysberts, McKenzie, McNamara and Spencer could all be eligible and have the talent.

Jack Ziebell was red hot favourite with the bookies until a recent spanner in the works - Naitanui has played the max 10 allowed to still be eligible and if he keeps his form up he would have to be a certainty to take it out.

Here's hoping one of our boys can take it out.

Don't think NicNat is a shoe in, but i do agree if he keeps that form up he will be some player (if only the recruiters had a crystal ball) got the likes of Dustin Martin who can play and should play a fair bit this year, Tom Swift pretty handy who will also get game time and without being one eyed (well as best as i can) Trengove is a stand out talent providing the club and his body allow him game time. BTW i can't wait too see tapscott play in the red and blue, watched a bit of him last year very impressive and was wrapped when he was read oot @ pick 18

It's going to be interesting. I reckon Nicnat will have up and down weeks. Will almost certainly figure n the top 5, but win it? There's a raft of dees that will be in with a chance, but will they get n each others way for nominations? We could seriously end up with about 8 or 9 when you look at the ages and games played on the list. Trengove, Scully, Tapscott, Watts, Blease, Strauss, Jurrah, Tmac, Gysberts are the names I'd have as in with a chance.

Personally, I reckon with the support they'll get, along with the fact they'll be required tomplay 22 most likely, Swift and Martin might be the ones to beat.

Early days though.

Isnt Jurrah inelegable as he played 12 games last year?

I think you will find that Jurrah only played 9 games last yr..... and kicked 20 goals....

Although he has played just 9 games I think Jurrah he is now too old for the rising star. Can someone confirm this.

turns 22 in September

I think I read somewhere that Jurrah is ineligible due to his age.

Oh. Yeah I thought he was juuust young enough. Never mind then. Withdrawn.

My money is on Morabito, he's big, bad and crazy talented. I love Trengove and he is a gun, but I can see Morabito having a bigger first year (and better midfield support).

Jurrah is ineligible.

From the AFL site:

To qualify for the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination, a player must be under 21 years of age as at January 1 of that year, must not have played more than 10 games to the start of that season and must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
