2009 Player Review - # 38 Daniel Hughes

Daniel Hughes – Daniel showed some really good improvement. He came off a hip injury last year and, from a modified pre-season, he was able to play some good footy at Casey. He is a really explosive, lead-up forward, with really good speed and is powerful. Daniel really takes the game on and we see him as a really important player. He will be a really difficult forward to match-up on and he can also play in the midfield. It was a really good development year for 'Hughesy'. He's just gone in for another hip operation and he will have a limited pre-season – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au

Daniel seems to have some real talent, and the Footy Dept. seem to like his potential. Sadly, his short career has been dogged by injury ........ and now another hip operation followed by another limited pre-season. I suppose the question has to be 'will he get another year on the rookie list?' The strong suggestion in this short summary is that he will. I hope so.

Gee another limited pre-season is not really the preperation he'd be looking for in the make-or-break season of his professional career.

I saw him take a hanger on Almost Football Legends though.

Well...oh Danny boy...time to show us the real stuff.. Time to step up to the plate. Simple as that.. Injury concerns are that but either you can..or you cant...Now is the time

Sorry Danny ..you are 23-24 - and you have now had 3 years on our rookie list. [Edited] You are not up to it - and I will be very disappointed if for any reason the club keeps you on. Best wishes for your career outside the AFL

May I suggest to posters that they avoid making idle and unsubstantiated allegations against players that involve legal action or illegal behaviour.

This is not an area of speculation thats welcome on this forum. Thanks.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
