HA! I was thinking the same thing.

I remember Sellar was supposed to be pick two after Gibbs a few years ago. He ended up being the last pick of the first round from memory... pick 16 or thereabouts. He's not entirely useless, but I'm not sure he's going to have a glittering career.

Would people prefer Talia over Butcher? While Butcher is a chance to drift to eleven, Talia is NO chance I would have thought. Would love to see some of the mock drafts people have in mind for the first 20 picks.

Personaly i still think Panos is far better than Butcher & U/18 all australian selectors think so to.Butcher may go early but i cant see why as im not keen on him.Give me Panos any day

im right with you on Panos

The paper wrote that he was no longer top 10. I'd pick him up at 11 even though he's an ordinary kick, his height and agility are too good to pass up on in a weaker draft. He's definately not a top 2 pick.

I read that aswell.

Stupid article there is no way known Butcher will fall to the Bulldogs pick. It states that he is the best KPP in the draft well you r tard (journalist) there is a team at pick 11 who are in dire need of another key forward.

I'd have Panos first, but I don't think he will be there at 11. Butcher sounds like he could be, and would be great value at 11.

Just so you know, Matthew Panos is an Athletic forward and is not the same sort of player as Butcher. So when you say you would take him before Butcher you need to understand in your minds what type of player you want and how he fits in the team. I would have thought we already have the Athletic forward covered in Watts.

Panos can't even make the top side for Norwood in the SANFL so it's going to be a huge leap for him to play afl. Panos plays in the reserves and I have seen him play 3 times now. He plays ok, but never gets in the best even in the reserves so how can you justify him as a top 10 pick?

Panos is a good youngster but is overrated on here for sure. Taylor Walker was twice as good as Panos at the same age and was in the top side for Norwood (Played in their last game and kicked 5). You can't even mention them in the same breath. Anyway point being Panos is not a top 10, and as for our needs and what the players could offer I would take Butcher over Panos even though I am NOT a Butcher fan.

Fair enough I'll trust your judgement on Panos, but if he is better than Butcher I don't care what type of player he is just take him. WOuld you take him at 18?

Not having seen that much of the other talls who will be around come pick 18 besides youtube, but yes I would take him at 18. Think Brad fisher but with more potencial, or so id hope.

Beau Waters played about 3 reserves SANFL games before he got picked up.

I think you're failing to remember it's about what the player CAN do, not what he's doing right now

Exactly right & the point still is that Panos has played League for Norwood,he only played a few & didnt star but the team had, walker, jericho,Rowe whos 196cm & played at Swans,Terlich who also was at Swans & Lee who played at Essendon. They are all more experienced & have more mature bodies. In the Reserves he was playing at CHF & was kicking his 3 or 4 every week which is good for CHF.Hes no the biggest but you dont have to be,hes as tall as Neitz but quicker & more agile & hes around the same height as Bradshaw & Fev but more mobile than both.Fact is PANOS was ALL AUST & Butcher wasnt so that says alot & also Butchers playing at a lower level

Jay Clark is the journo who wrote that tripe. He wouldn't have watched any under 18's football besides the last day of the champs at Docklands.

So you would take him at pick 11? And if the choice was between Butcher and Panos you would go Panos?

Because this is what I said in my post, it was not an attack on Panos.

Oh and Waters was a poor example. I would want a better player then him at #11.

Dee man, you contradict yourself by agreeing to the fact it's what a player can do, not what he's doing right now, yet you say Panos was ALL AUST and Butcher was not? Panos may have done well but I would say Butcher CAN DO more.

Butcher has many many questions marks over him, let me make it clear I am not a Butcher fan. Panos will be a good player but is not worthy of pick 11.

I find that recruiters sometimes focus to much on players negatives and look for too many reasons to not pick a player as was teh case with Carlton with Yarran and Rich. Butcher isn't the complete package and may not have had a great season but fact is his is still the best tall mark in this years draft.

The point is though that no one knows how good they both will turn out.Plenty of clubs have had low picks & got duds & we have had our share & sometimes you can find gems late in the draft.Butchers & Panos may or may not be guns & who knows where they will go.

Oh & by the way i know your not attacking Panos & obviously evryone has different opinions. My post started from a friend that has played on Butcher & with Panos & i was just passing on what he thinks & who he thinks is better. With regard to Waters not playing many games ill say that its always been that way with the SANFL.Id bet that 90% of players drafted to the AFL from SA have never played more than 2 or 3 games of league. The clubs dont like playing kids in the League side & in the last 10 years id say Trengove has played more A-Grade games than Cooney,Gibbs etc.Tapscotts only played a couple this year,Rivers didnt play many,Jamar didnt either.Up until this year the SANFL was under 17s & under 19s so usually they were drafted out of the 19s.Just pointing out that most that get drafted dont play much league here if that helps at all

Butcher is not going to be a bust pick, but a top 5 pick he is not. The dees will take 2 mids with picks 1+2 since losing brock, this may have been a different tale had brock stayed around. The dees will see what is available at pick 11, and if Butcher is there along with some other bigs then the dees will have a look at him for sure.

If Talia/Butcher/other top prospect fall to pick 11 then one of them is on their way to the MFC.

Scully and Trengrove for 1+2 for me.

Well if the Herald Sun is to be believed (cough . . cough . . splutter) then Richmond are pretty keen on Dustin Martin at 3 and are pretty happy with their key forward stocks (Post and Vickery) and Essendon were also mentioned as having a midfielder as their priority. Just wonder how far Butcher will slide. It could be the most interesting aspect of draft day. If Sydney are genuinely into Rohan and Port take a local or don't have a pick before us after trading it away then we might just get lucky. We're allowed to dream right?

Talk this morning is he will drop out the top 10. If this is so, MFC can consider him for pick 11.

If this kid has so much potencial like everyone says yet 10 clubs with their first pick don't go near him you would have to wonder why.

Silly comment...

Dal Santo drafted at 11, Higgins at 11, Rich at 7, Selwood at 7, Grimes at 14.... etc etc etc.... quality players sometimes slide a few spots depending on the needs of the clubs.

If we got Butcher at 11 I would absolutely stoked. He will become an awesome forward combination with Watts, Butcher and Jurrah as our Talls.

I actually think Butcher is underated around here. Kicked 30.18 goals, was the dominant forward for the past 2 years in TAC level. If he was available for last years draft he would certainly have gone top 10. I think it is the case of the clubs have 2 full years to analyse him for flaws, similar to what clubs said about Rich pre-draft. It is also worth considering that he was double manned every single game he plays bc he is the star forward.

Scully, Trengove, Butcher and Sheppard will be the perfect draft for me!

Clearly did not understnad the post.

We all know Butcher was a number 1 pick a while ago. We all know that he has the a huge potencial to be a gun forward, more then most in each draft. There would have to be some serious doubts over certain parts to his game to not get in the top ten pick, its a simple as that. I'm not saying that they can be fixed or he won't be a good player just that for a player like Butcher to go outside the top 10 clearly some parts of his game need some serious working on. You don't just slip down like he has for no reason.
