Best Melboune 25.

My best 25 is made up of palyers I can clearly remember watching play, which goes from 1994 to today. I also added my own condition of players needing to have played at least 50 games for MFC. Otherwise players such as Jackovich, Charles and Shanahan would have been included.

FB: S. Wight, A. Ingerson, M. Whelan

HB: C. Bruce, J. Rivers, S. Febey

C: S. Tingay, S. Woewodin, T. Johnstone

HF: R. Robertson, D. Schwarz, A. Davey

FF: G. Lyon, D. Neitz, J. Farmer

FOLL: J. Stynes, T. Viney, G. Lovett

INT: B. Green, J. McDonald, J. White, A. Yze

EMERG: M. Febey, A. Lovell, B. Lovett

Can anyone think of anyone I may have left out who should be in for one of the 25?

Jakovich played 54 games and would be in the 22 for mine.

Good effort. Despite winning a B'low, I am not sure Woewodin would be a shoo in for centre position. Charles and Shanahan would not be in the running.

Some good players there but a side that pale against the best 25 of other sides such has been our lack of success.

I hope within three years there will be a number of today's list that would easily make this side.

I thought it was only 47 with Melbourne and the rest with Bulldogs? Although I'm probably wrong.

I know what you mean abou comparing this 25 to other clubs 25. But as you said hopefully in a few years time you can add the likes of Blease, Watts, Scully, Jurrah etc to it.

Bizzell on a HBF

In place of Bruce? That's probably fare.

I'm a fair bit older than you but I'll play. It's a welcome diversion from ludicrous trade proposals.

B Laurie Fowler, Ray Biffin, Alan Johnson

HB Brett Lovett, Gary Hardeman, Adem Yze

C Robbie Flower, Greg Wells, Stephen Tingay

HF Garry Lyon, David Schwarz, Ross Brewer

F Jeff Farmer, Allen Jakovich, Gerard Healy

R Jim Stynes, Todd Viney, Greg Healy

Int Earl Spalding, Brian Wilson, David Neitz, Peter Moore

Emer Stan Alves, Warren Dean, Brad Green

Hopefully in five years time, I'll be able to tip out some of these & replace them with premiership players. Not thrilled with having to name Brewer given the lazy bugger [censored] off to the 'Pies but he was a genuine HFF and a bloody good one when he got off his arse. 3 time leading goalkicker albeit with meagre totals. Coodabeen.

Well since I've really only followed football since late 2006, it's going to be tough for me. I've watched the Dees on and off since 2000, seen many old dvd's and videos like 'Hotter than Hell' and 'Dynamic Demons' etc, I'll have a go.

thats a good side,go demons, wonder dog thinking about a flag next year.

Would have included the Duke Spalding, Alan Johnson and started Yze on a wing, but otherwise a good effort.

Ah yes Robbie Flower! I've seen old videos of him play with the like of Spalding, Healy and Ricky Jackson. Shattered I wasn't old enough to remember, I was only 5 when Robbie retired so even though I did see him and some of those others play I can't really claim that I saw them cause I don't remember it. That's why I only started from 94' as I can clearly remember from then onwards.

I started going to Melbourne games in the late 70s when I was very young. I dont really remember players before 1980.

I decided to buck the thread and instead of putting together my 'Best 25' team, I have put together a "Cult Figure/Fan Favourite Best 25' from 1980 til 2009. Probably missed a few, but here's the team I came up with.

Missed one A. Davey!

No room for Tiger Crosswell !!!!!!

Yeah, he was one that I had in the team originally Rhino. I lost him in the shuffle. Looking over the team again I could easily find a spot for him.

He deserves a spot if only for his superb display in his last game. Classic Crosswell.

Don't get wrong, I love Liam Jurrah as much as the next man, in fact having been to Yuendumu and sharing the same skin name as him (which in Warlpiri culture makes him my brother!), I probably love him more than most, but to have him in your best 25 of the last few decades after 9 senior games is perhaps stretching it just a little.... I am prepared to re-evaluate after round 5 next year though :P

G.LOVETT then.

These are the players that have given me the most pleasure over the years and the positions I would put them in.

Probably not the best team but they would give it a fair shake

Why has no one included Ron Barrassi??

Im guessing its because very few of us actually saw Ron play.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
